Approval for "light duty"  It will allow me to be in the classroom and not be the one liable.    Chris will be there anyday I come in.   I will be able to transition the kids, guide the programming, plan.    My thought is to go in 1 day per week, and do the rest from home for a total of 12-15 hours.  That shouldn't interfere with any short term ( Read more... )

I think it's good that you can do light duty. One day a week sounds good to me. It will hopefully get you out of your head for a little bit. Try not to over do it on the hours at home. Stop when you get stressed out and remember to take care of yourself.

Most definitely. I need out of my head something awful. This is more of what I wanted anyway, see explanation to Nic.

How do you feel? I think it's good - they are recognising that your presence is valuable. And hopefully it will be of huge benefit to the kids and their futures, too.

fingers crossed you can find some peace about this now. xxxxooooxxx

Honestly, this is more of what I wanted to begin with, but there was no way I could have negotiated it on my behalf. It took getting my sped supervisor and union involved, and they couldn't get involved until HR did what they did.

I'm not locking myself into any particular day, since I'm being paid hourly. I can do it when I want, and stop when I need. And, it allows me to be involved and balanced. Feel valuable, yes. Especially because I will be paid at my same rate of pay.

IEPs are Thursday May 24. I need to be there that day if I can be.

My thought? Work Tuesday May 8 at school, so I can... work and fill up on loving before my surgery the next day. Speech/APE are in. Work Friday May 18 - OT and PT are in. Work Thursday May 24. And one day the last week of school yet to be determined. The rest would be done at home. If I need to go in more, I could. If I need to go in less, I could.

Sounds like a good plan.
I'm so happy to hear they are finally working on getting you back to your kids.
*hugs*

how about going in 2 half days, like monday and thursday?

it is going to tire you out more than you realise.

1/2 days isn't an option because there is no way for me to get there and back. It is preferrable, but I would have to drive myself, and I can't drive an hour to work and an hour home. If I do a full day, my colleague Ann is willing to pick me up and drop me home. But, since I'm not the one liable for the kids, if I need to lay down and nap on the mat table, I can. I'll be turning in an hourly time seet and getting paid that way.

well, 15 hours sounds a lot to me. Working with kids, even from home is tiring as hell.
I just keep on thinking a few summers ago when you were working 2 jobs and all that you struggle with. I do understand that work gives you soooo much. I am not invalidating that in the least, but why would a few months of hurt? You know you are going back no?
Personally, I think you need a break. Feel free to disagree with my rather impressionistic 2 cents, (full of salt?)
take care

I truly appreciate your honesty, Em. I always have. You may be right. I might need a break. But, I won't know that until I try. There is nothing that says I have to work 12-15 hours if it feels too much. The district would prefer less. Some weeks, it probably would be less. But I needed to know what they would approve so I didn't work an extra hour without being compensated for it.

I feel that I need to do this for the next month though. I do not plan on working ESY with the district as originally planned, but I NEED to be able to help with the IEP's and transitioning my students. Its both for me and for them.
