It probably would have been a good idea to listen to the radio last night. If she had, Brooke wouldn't have been out where there were vampires and psycho killers wandering around.

As it was, Brooke was calling it a pretty early night tonight, heading back to the dorms from Caritas when she saw the girl. "Hey there," she called. "Are you out here by yourself?"

This night was proving delightful.

Claudia sniffled and nodded. "I am. I am lost and hungry."

"Aww. That's no good. Where are you parents?" she wondered, coming closer.

[minnesota_teen]

"Maman is dead," she replied, stepping closer as well, as her doll dragged upon the ground. "I cannot find my father." Her expression was soft, her eyes innocent, and she was utterly perfect.

She couldn't just leave a kid alone out there like that. "Well, let me tell you what," Brooke said. "I'll walk around with you for a while, we'll see if we can find him, maybe get you something to eat if we can't right away. How's that sound?"

"You are so kind," she said, just as she said to all the others she's encountered this evening. All of them so willing to help her. "Please allow me to repay you in some manner, mademoiselle. Maman would be ashamed did I not try."

"Oh, don't even worry about it," Brooke assured her. "You're lost, I can help... It's what people do. Now where'd you see your dad last?"

Claudia extended her small, cold hand towards her. "A kiss upon your cheek? Oh, please, let me do this for you as it is all I can offer. My father would demand it of me and I should not like his wrath upon me does he learn I was anything less than ladylike." Her tone suggested her father was a tyrant, and she laced it with enough fear in hopes to persuade the girl to give her what she sought.

"That," Brooke said, taking her hand, "sounds worrying... God, you're cold. How long have you been out here?"

And slowly, last night's conversation with that other Claudia started to come back to her.

"Since the sun set," she answered, her bottom lip trembling gently.

Now Brooke was starting to get really nervous, and gently trying to pull her hand away. "You know what, I don't think I can help you. I just remembered I'm supposed to be somewhere."

Claudia tried to tighten her hold. "You shouldn't have offered to help me."

Brooke tried harder to pull away and step back at the same time. "Yeah, I'm getting that."

[minnesota_teen]

She let her hand go, but Claudia stepped in close, a quick flash of movement. "You smell sweet; let me have a kiss and I shall let you go."

All right, that was really freaky and Brooke didn't want to be here anymore. Still trying to back away as quickly as possible, like that would help, she replied, "No! I am not getting eaten by a kindergartener!"

"Silly girl," Claudia cackled, "I do not want to eat you. I simply want to taste you." And again she moved fast, trying to reach for the girls arm in an attempt to yank her to her knees.
