anyway, in case you didn't know i have a thing for dysfunctional post-epilogue h/g so this is like opening a birthday gift you know you're going to love, or something. i love how it's not over-the-top drama, just the slow erosion of a seemingly-happy relationship that we know so well in the real world. i felt really bad for ginny here and i think many will empathize with her even if they don't like her.

damn, i kept waiting for ginny to catch on.
I don't think she ever will catch on, or not quite. :( Unless she gets an LJ and discovers the world of slash...

Lovely to see that of yours icon again! I was actually thinking about it the other day.

This is my oldest icon! I still use it, too!

I always thought that Harry/Ginny was an odd pairing--nothing like Ron/Hermione, because it really seemed as though Ginny loved "famous Harry Potter" and Harry wanted to be a Weasley. And I actually really like the idea of Harry/Luna (though I get the feeling you're implying Harry/Malfoy, which I never saw, personally, so I'll just believe what I like. ha.)
Anyway, really, really lovely piece.

I absolutely agree with you about Harry/Ginny: it's very hard to envisage them together in the real world, though the Epilogue did a reasonable job of convincing me.
though I get the feeling you're implying Harry/Malfoy
Yes, I am! I'm not an H/D shipper by any means, and this actually started off quite overtly as Harry/Luna, which always seems to be the relationship that got away. But it ended up with Draco, or possibly with Draco. I'm happy for you to interpret it as you prefer, though! :)

And about Harry/Draco...I know it's kind of the way that LJ goes, but I'm usually not one to jump to the slash relationship, you know? I usually accepts characters described as straight AS straight. Which may not always be correct, but whatever; fanfic's the writer's prerogative.
And seriously, you are a lovely writer. This was perfectly moody and American Beauty-esque, and just seems like such a realistic version of what Harry as an adult would be like. I always got the vibe from him that Ron and Hermione were his best friends, and no one would ever be closer to him than they--that he ( ... )

I really thought that Luna "got" Harry
Yes, so do I! The main flaw in the books, which obviously I do think are brilliant, is that JKR sometimes doesn't let her characters develop the way they want to. Harry/Luna seemed so right, but Rowling had planned to pair him off with Ginny, so that was what she did, in spite of minimal chemistry there, to my mind. Same with Remus and Tonks: it was too much of an agenda. *gets off soapbox*

Isn't it fun? The slash/gen division has always felt very artificial to me--there are so many stories to be told that deal with relationships but aren't necessarily "relationship stories" in the conventional sense. This is an excellent example of that, by the way. I always feel like I learn something from your fic. M.

er, which is to say, beautifully done; it hurts so much partly because you make it so terribly clear how Ginny is trying to make herself numb. This is so sensitively and mercilessly observed that I would say you cut to the bone, except there's a bruised feeling to it; sharpness is too clean and too easy.
I really like how you leave the infidelity uncertain and not directly addressed; it feels very real.
