It was pretty much completely random. I just noticed we had a bunch of stuff from The Body Shop in our shower that I love, and yet everywhere I go I always see way more Bath & Body Works, which appears to me to be the closest direct competitor, but I hardly like any of their fragrances. I was just curious if some of my friends really love Bath & Body Works, or if it's really a cosmic mystery why they're so successful.
A quick search online reveals that the Body Shop is global with 2,400 stores in 61 countries, but Bath & Body Works has 1,600 stores, all in the U.S.
The people I work with really love The Bath and Body works. They tend to be more...um...girlie (Is that the word I want?) than most of the people I have seen you with at parties. The people I work with really like the very feminine colors and the extremely sweet scents. Most of the woman I am friends with are a little more repulsed. I can't help wondering if The Bath and Body works is just a little to conventional for some. I personally prefer the more earthy fragrances from The Body Shop, and the primary color scheme of the packaging.
Now I am curious: did you buy the products you use, or did someone pick them out for you?
Ronit introduced me to one of their products the first time, but now it's my favorite. It's honestly the only bath store where I tend to like more scents than I dislike. Our mutual favorites are grapefruit (which we love calling "pamplemousse", printed on the French Canadian side of the bottle), and satsuma.
I can usually find scents I like in any bath store - but it's just not as much fun when I dislike the majority of them.
And while I have nothing against the widely-available products you can find in any drugstore or grocery store (like Suave, for example), I've found that in many cases they don't smell the same "in use" as they do in the store. What I love about the Body Shop is that if I like it in the store, I'll usually like it at home, too.
Neither. Both are too smelly, and I find I do much better with stuff from Trader Joe's, which works just as well, smells less, and is cheaper, or just by using plane almond oil or coconut oil for moisturizer. That said, The Body Shop is by far the less offensive of the two.

Personally I'd choose neither, but I'd never heard of the Body Shop. It sounded too much like a car repair place to me.
