As far as fabrics, then, I would strongly suggest velveteen (and not just because it's the same thing I used). It's warm enough that you should be comfortable outside in a St. Louis January, but we could flat-line it under the lining proper for more warmth, if desired (Dharma Trading Co. has some good deals on undyed cloth of various weights and such, great for interlining--we could do flannel or wool, though mine is unlined and I think it's warm enough, but then, I'm usually wearing something warmer that a formal underneath!) Here's some suggestions:
Hancock Fabric has a good deal on velveteen, though they only have it in 6 colors, but that might still work ( ... )
