YARNLY YEARNINGS AND WHAT (K)NOT

Still trying to catch up on all already started projects and the other day I also ogled and bought yarn. There was this melange kind of yarn of whiteish grey and blue that looked nice. Sadly only one hank left but it was on a sale, so I couldn't resist. And a wool and soy blend? Most curious!

I have at least acquired some small and transparent plastic boxes at least, so that I can easier keep project stuff in one place, working on getting more ringbinders though. have some more BJD kimono ideas, but I'll wait with those 'til Autumn ish, as right now I'll try and focus on my new-old needlebinding obsession :) (or as some would call it, nalbinding, but since nål is 'needle' in Swedish it just feels odd calling it that, and
thus 'needlebinding' is what I prefer).

I posted a question a while ago on Nalbinding, an English Yahoo Group for needlebinding to ask about a stitch I've been using for a while, and thanks to detective work of Sanna-Mari (aka samatofi @ flickr) I now know that the stitch is an unnamed stitch.

She has a most excellent needlebinding site here in English, and here is her original Finnish site. She has made ooodles of awesome videos! Now I just need to find the time and patience to sit down and absorb it all, not to mention add a new category to my Needlebinding page! There's simply too many videos around (including hers), so it'd be better for them to have an own category instead of being listed in the general Links section.

Anyhow, regarding my mystery stitch there are some categorisation systems for needlebinding, and if using Hansen's one could according to Sanna-Mari call describe my stitch: UUUU/OOOOO
Basically U stands for under and O for over, and it is meant to describe the way of the yarn/needle as it forms a new loop for the stitch in question. Needlebinding is basically loops and loops again. Oh, photos of the miraculous mystery stitch can be found here.

RECYCLING

At Scylla's school they've started working with a thing called Grön Flagg, eg Green Flag.

"Green flag tool for all pedagogical activity that want to work with sustainable development in teaching as well as daily maintenance. With over 2000 members it is also Sweden's biggest network fo schools and preschools that work with the environment and sustainable development."

(NB: my translation of Swedish text on their webby, so it is likely to be
Swenglish since I have not done any proper translation exercises in ages)

So they get to research how they use rescources etc, and most noticeably perhaps how we handle garbage and what can be recycled and others things to think about to not waste resources.

I've been an ok recycler at home, mostly empty tetrapak packages that contained soured milk, milk and rosehip soup, although the latter have a slightly more elongated squared shape with bottle opening that makes them more tricky to rinse out and flatten. Recycling canned goods packages is a bit easier, since one just needs to wash them out and let them dry, and remove any labels on the outside.

I've realised I could use some kind of table with a suitably long piece of table cloth to hide compartments underneath, so I can keep this outside the apartment door, 'cause it's so annoying to have to stumble over the plastic bags over and over. So hm, maybe buy something cheap at IKEA, and some kind of containers with a lid, so that there'd be no insect or other invasion of the empty packages.

How have you others solved this storage / space issue with recycled things?

BJD OGLING

And goodness gracious.. I've now seen that Nemuidoll (a UK-based dealer for Shinydoll ABJDs) lowered her prices a bit since Shinydoll creator did, and she also linked to info and pics about the new Thaasa III body. That body together with the Kanagi head, it looked wonderful.

Shinydoll currently has 3 doll sizes/lines, Pricco is about 30 cm, Fragille 42 and Thaasa 55 ish cm. But... I should probably try and make outfits for the dolls that I already have. That, and trying to find bookshelves of a suitable size to make a room of some sort. It's a lot nicer to be able to stash away a doll in a diorama of some kind, than cram it down in a box.

Another reason to get the bigger Thaasa, is because I ordered jointed hands in 1/4 size, but they were of course too big for Fragille, since she is a very slim and dainty thing. So, maybe on Thaasa they'll fit and harmonise with her excellently jointed body. The thing is also that the original hands on Fragille are not that much bigger than for Pricco, and that gives Fragille a far too childish and stumped appearence when it comes to hands.

Comparison of hands can be seen here. There you'll see the hands that my Fragille currently is wearing, Resinsoul ones, and also the original Fragille hands and Pricco hands.

WORKING IT

Not too surprisingly I've been insanely tired recently. Going to bed after midnight and getting up at 6am for work, never a good idea yet I never seem to learn.. sigh. More studies await this Autumn so I'll hopefully not get to work as much as I am right now, +85% that is, but with the extra hours I've chipped in I've pretty much worked a full time. And then it is definately time to finish that LIS essay and more..

A CONTEST OF ICONS

Yup, icon obsessed and game of thrones obsessed as well as general iconmakers, why not have a peek at acontestoficons, hmm? :D (unless you're already a member/watcher, that is)

I've finally realised to better speed up posting of results and new challenges, I should plan and upload, _before_ the new challenge is up. Then all I have to do is post entries on LJ. Current challenges for Week 9 are Ned and a theme challenge focusing on hands!

Now, back to reading A Dance With Dragons!
(whilst battling a pesky cold with paper tissues and what not)
