Monday, Monday - just turned out that way

A good friend of ours who has repeatedly gone out of her way to support us in our rehab efforts recently sent us this card. It's one of two Thank You cards that she made. She must have spent hours finding and cutting out every animal picture she could find and pasting them on those cards. I wanted to share them because they made me cry. Every ( Read more... )

What a sweet face on the owl.

As for your last question, yes. Try it. What have you got to lose? Of course, you may end up with another barn owl, but that wouldn't be so bad.

Lol. He was mugging for the camera. We found out that barn owls have a shriek that can curdle one's blood! Now we know why they're sometimes called Tigers of the Night. When he first arrived, he was scared and so incredibly pissed off that he shrieked for 30 minutes straight and charged the door every time we got close. He wanted a piece of me in the worst way. He's calmed down quite a bit since then.

It's odd how often it happens on a lesser scale in our lives. Like I'll remark out loud, "Gee, I haven't heard from so-and-so in a long time," and she calls 15 minutes later. This thing with the owl was a stunner. Maybe somebody up there is listening after all and I just haven't gone about it the right way :)

I'm reading along and smiling and Oooo-ing and Ah-ing at the Barn Owl ( I have a couple of mice in the cellar I'd gladly mail to him) and then I got to the last paragraph and I laughed out loud. Try it--if it works I'll do the same.

ps I am glad I missed the shrieking :)

I think I'm going to *have* to try it. If it works, I'll be the one shrieking :)

Me, too! And this little guy's coloration is just extraordinary. Unlike the picture on the card, this one's wings are a uniform burnished red-gold without the mottled darker brown. Just gorgeous! :)

We did until it actually happened, and then we were glad to ship him off to the avian vet. lol. We know some hawks can pierce ears with their screaming (Sharp-shins in particular,) but most owls hiss or clack or just give killer glares. I guess this is a case of next time being way more careful what we wish for :)
