I try & keep my politics outside of Livejournal most of the time. Because I figure if people want to know, they can ask & we can talk about it, or they already know how I lean. But seeing this picture, I kind of have to break that.

Yes. I know that the media was in an uproar about it, but Britain was smitten with them & they're so uppity about people touching the Queen.

this boy will grow up knowing that the President is just like him, all because he got to touch his hair.

Isn't that wonderful? Gah. It still makes me want to tear up, thinking about how much that boys life is going to be changed.

Yes. This picture, in my opinion, perfectly captures why having a black president is so important to so many people. Yes, white people can be role models for people of color, but the idea that someone who looks like you, whose hair feels like your own, can ascend to this country's highest office... that is something remarkable.

Yeah, this pic makes me tear up a bit. God I love the O-bomb.

Yes yes yes! It's silly to think that hair can matter so much, but I feel like when I read bloggers who are Asian, Black, etc., they always comment on how, when they're little, they're so ashamed of their hair. Now there's no reason to be-- it's not a divider (as much), it's a big step towards finally getting rid of those remaining inequalities..
