LJ A Dying Breed?

May 06, 2010 13:32

I just culled my friends list so that it'd be those who actually post and/or update. If I'm removed you, thinking you're not on here anymore, let me know.

In this process, I removed half the people on my list.
Facebook really has taken over.

I still love LJ. Facebook is great for news and keeping up but for personal updates I will always prefer LJ...

I still read posts on here (and sometimes look through the archives to reminisce) but I've grown increasingly touchy about my "private" life and this feels somehow too share-y. Not sure where the shift happened.

It's funny, because I felt like LJ kind of developed the problem FB has-- which is you kind of add everyone you meet with one. As a result, I know I felt like I could never write here anymore, because the space was no longer mine & safe...

Exactly!
Plus, I never know what to say. It just seems easier to email people when something I think they'd care about happens rather than putting it out into the void.

I updated a couple months ago for the first time in, like, 2 years. I still read LJ and leave comments, but I guess I feel the same as the commenter above me about the privacy thing. Also, it does seem like Facebook is taking over, which is kind of sad because most of what people post there is just a sentence or two.
