DEPRECIATION

Her eyelids as heavy as a broken garage door, Runa came to haltingly, like a newborn fawn trying to stand, blinking slowly, until the haze began to lift.  Gradually, her world came into focus, revealing glaring fluorescent overhead lights, a bed railing, and... a heart monitor?  She was in a hospital.  She tried to sit up, but couldn’ ( Read more... )

I was totally fascinated by this idea! I was rooting for Runa pretty hard, she's got determination and sass, which are qualities I like in a person (and a character). Good job!

You know, I must be reading too many stories that have tragic/comic endings. I was waiting for you to have offed Athan to science to help pay for her 'reboot'! This was clever, and extremely well done. Peace~~~D

Wasn't intentionally trying to misdirect anyone... we have our moments, but we are not always so dark. Glad you enjoyed this, and thanks!

What an interesting use of the prompt! And because the cancer was not really treatable, her previous body really was not somewhere she could stay.

The idea of having a new body, though-- a new appearance, and even such things as yes, being taller-- would be so strange. I don't know how you'd ever get used to it.

I'm sure it would be strange, but I bet any of us would do it if it meant the difference between life and virtual death. Glad you found this interesting... always hoping for at least that much! ;)

You really should expand on this world in some way, shape or form. Perhaps expand it to novel length or short story. You've created a very rich world here and I feel like this story, as good as it is, barely scratches the surface of what you could explore with it. Its excellent and its rare to encounter something that holds my attention the way this did. Seriously, consider developing it.

This is the song I thought of reading this:

Thanks! You're not the first person to suggest continuing in this universe... it will depend on how mamas_minion feels about it, as we've discovered we may have some discrepant visions of where it would be going next, but hopefully we'll get that sorted, and can move forward. This seems a very appropriate song, given the subject matter.
