Batterbee

Last night, several_bees, kevandotorg and I went to an event put on by Abel & Cole called The Big Buzz. It purported to be an evening all about bees, held in Battersea Power Station! As these are two of Holly's main interests, she feared someone might have set it up as an elaborate plot to murder her. And indeed, when we got to the event, we were not taken into the ( Read more... )

There's some at the South Bank Centre too, but we already knew that. I can't remember if the writer-in-residence there actually goes and reads poetry to the bees, or whether that was something several_bees made up.

It's true! Or at least, it was a year ago. It is possible that the bees have since failed to come out with particularly cultured honey, and the poets may have become discoruaged. Sometimes they got musicians to perform as well.

I am living in hope that one winter day I will meet someone mulling over a suspicious outdoor stain, and they will ask
"Could that be... bee poo?" and I will look stern and say
"No, bees don't poo in the winter."
Thank you for posting this, it is quite possibly the best fact ever.

I think they just don't like going out in the cold, after all they are very grumpy. We were also told that British bees were "much darker" than other bees, in a way that made it sound like they enjoyed sitting in their hives listening to the Manics.

It must have been a fun day in bee-land when that decision was announced.

"Hey guys, I've discovered a solution to the smelly-hive problem!"
"Great, what is it?"

aw man, that sounds like an ace night. And such top bee facts! I've been making a point of counting the bees in our garden lately - I planted lots of nice things for them that they seem to like. We talked about maybe getting a beehaus but they look a bit serious really.

Gosh, that looks like some kind of industrial oven! Though your place would probably be quite a good area to keep bees, what with you being right near the marshes. I planted some bee-friendly flowers too, though I dunno that a first-floor balcony on the middle of an estate would be a very good place to keep them.

I would love to have a hive of bees, but sadly my best friend is both allergic to them and agoraphobic, so he'd NEVER come over if I got them!

You should do it tho. Bees rock.
