I am having the exact same concerns about housing. Dammit. I really want to stay here, but I have no idea how that's going to work, unless I marry rich.

I'm going to play even though I'm just shy of the 25 to 35 range.

I intend to live here for a good long time. I'll rent as long as I have to and then try to get a low interest loan. Ideally, I'd save at least $50k for a downpayment for a shithole studio in bayview or something, renovate some myself, sell it, and work my way up. I guess the other option is to wait 'til I am settling down with someone. With two incomes, it wouldn't be so bad. Least favorite option: move to East Bay.

How do you save up here? Thats the problem. Everything costs so much and most people arent willing to do without.

I don't know about the noe valley pro vs. the nonsense. Theres tons of middle class people and neighborhoods here that most people that move here aren't exposed to them I suppose? I dont know how you'd afford to raise a child here though. No idea at all.

I could totally see you doing that, from what I remember of your personality.

The thing is, if you can invest in a million dollar condo, imagine the return if you ever decide to sell. Start small, yeah? I can't imagine making such a purchase until saved sufficiently to not be eaten alive by a mortgage. Start now? Haha

Or I could buy a stunning 5 bedroom house for $400,000 up in Sac. :) A so so condo in downtown goes for $500,000. Can we say meh?

Depends where you want to live, really. I'd say you're lucky if you think Ohio is a prize where you can get a 5 bedroom house for like $20K, or something ridiculous like that. That's a steal! But it's Ohio.

Yeah that $500K condo is a studio, too. ; )
