I used to do the same thing but he is right; "alot" is not a word. the correct term is "a lot" as in a lot of items, a lot of clothes, a lot of parking, or a lot for sale on ebay. Dictionary defintion would be: 1. A large extent, amount, or number. Often used in the plural: is in a lot of trouble; has lots of friends. 2. Used adverbially with a or in the plural to mean “to a great degree or extent” or “frequently”: felt a lot better; ran lots faster; doesn't go out a whole lot; has seen her lots lately. No offense, but he's right.
