Lovely knitting, but I also wanted to say that you're not alone with the dreamed-of-house being different from the real-life-house. Don't worry, take it step by step and while it will probably never actually be finished (I'm at 2 years and counting and there's still no end to the stuff I need to fix/finish/change/redo) it DOES start to feel more like home and you will eventually see bits and pieces of the home you want it to be. Just breathe.
Home ownership is one part blessing, one part curse. It's an expensive investment (our water heater went out just months after we bought the house) but it's also so rewarding. You get to paint and decorate in whatever way you want. I'm in the process of turning Lilly's bedroom into a purple, sparkly princess room. It's fun. :) And I have grand ideas about painting the other room and resurfacing our hardwood floors.
Just remind me about how much I love it when I get the estimate when I get someone out to look at my crawlspace and tell me how much it's going to cost to fix the damage down there from not having working sump pumps for a year and lots of heavy rain. ;p
