Amazing Grace is...wow.  Wow, wow, wow.

It fits in the same category as The Winslow Boy and Apollo 13.  But I think that it's better.  It's one of those movies that is so good that it leaves you in Good Movie Shock for at least a week and you want desperately to watch it a thousand times.

Wow.  I don't want to give any spoilers.  Just go see it as ( Read more... )

I never said that they were in the same category. :-)

But you said this, "It fits in the same category as The Winslow Boy and Apollo 13." Am I reading that wrong?

Ho-ho, I guess I need to re-state that. :-)

Amazing Grace reminded me of the Winslow Boy because of it's deliciously slooooooooow nature. It focused on a handful of central characters and had to do with the British legal system.

Amazing Grace reminded me of Apollo 13 because the amazing story is TRUE. It is incredible to think of one ordinary person heading up a team of other ordinary people and making such a difference. It also reminded me of Apollo 13 in that I was so engrossed in the story that even though I knew that the abolition of slavery bill DID get passed, I was so nervous that it wouldn't be. Does that make sense? :-) Just like I knew that the Apollo 13 would make it back to earth, but that didn't take away any of the intensity while watching the movie.

Did you really like The Winslow Boy? I liked it, but I wouldn't compare it to this movie...except for the Parliamentary-ish-ness. You know, Wilberforce and Northam's character (I forgot his name).

I have to admit that I knew/know almost nothing about Wilberforce...but now I want to read a biography! LOL

I have a question for you though: Was W. in the House of Commons or House of Lords? I thought he was in the HoC, but then I think it would be weird if the Duke of Clarence, as the son of the king, was in the HoC, too. Or do the two houses meet together to debate? I am rather confused at the moment. I didn't think that the two houses met together...

Oh, another thing I found interesting was all the talk about the revolutions. For some reason, I hand't really thought too much about what other cities were thinking during the French Rev. You know, like Clarkson said, "First Boston, then Paris, now London." Hm.

I'm going to be going out to Tehachapi for the day with mi familie...if you wanna call, feel free! (I'm bringing the bud...the ear bud. ;-))

YES! I thought that was very interesting. It makes complete sense, though. It makes you think about all of the political stuffage that was going on during the Regency time period.

I wuvs British history. If I could hug it, I would give it a hug. :-)

I wasn't necessarly comparing Winslow Boy to Amazing Grace. Amazing Grace is infinitely superior. I just love the deliciously slooooooow nature of both of those movies, with serious concentration on a few main characters. Yum, yum.

I found out that Wilberforce was in the House of Commons. But I am having a hard time figuring out if the Houses would have ever met together. The current parliament website indicates that the Houses meet separately for debates. Now I'm all into English parliament.... :-) FUN STUFF!

The preview doesn't do it justice, in my opinion. :-)
