(not very deep) thoughts

In the last year(ish), I've noticed engagement "announcements" (by which I mean facebook relationship status changes) trickling in through facebook. Most of these have been somewhat distant friends/acquaintances, or people I don't keep in very good touch with any more (I just facebook stalk them). They've all caused me a moment of "oh, wow!", but I ( Read more... )

On the plus side....I'm not engaged! At least not for real. I have many good years ahead of me before we get around to "that," hopefully.

...But I know how you feel. My housemate, Gen, is going out to buy scrapbooking materials tomorrow. She's been to so many weddings in the last year that she figures the only thing to do is record it all.

Hope to see you soooooooon!!!!

How old is Gen, and where is she from? Even though I now know several people who are engaged or married, I've only been to three weddings in my life - all of family members. But my friend Jesse from college has been to a bunch of weddings of high school friends in the last few years, and I generally attribute that to the fact that she's from Virginia. (Very scientific, I know.)

Looking forward to seeing you sometime after Thanksgiving :)

People I know who are my age and have gotten married since I graduated (or before):

- my 8th grade crush
- my best friend from middle school
- two high school friends
- SEVERAL people from middle school, who I can't identify because they have now changed their names

I was also told by coworkers that this reaches its peak at 27ish and then it tails off. I have nothing against married people - but I agree, the deluge is overwhelming.

Wow, I'm impressed - I haven't kept in touch with many people from middle school. The three middle school friends I see/talk to semi-regularly (once a year?) are not married...in fact, as far as I know, none of them is in a serious relationship right now. (But I've been bad at keeping in touch lately, so I don't really know.) I did hear about a girl I went to elementary school with who got married (one of my facebook friends was at the wedding & posted photos on facebook). She was an annoying little miss perfect when she was 8. Wonder what she's like now...

(P.S. I signed the petition!)
