Lights, Camera and Conversation .....

I am moderate movie freak and I watch all kinds of movies - the good ones, the bad ones and sometimes even the ugly ones. In case of the latter two categories I do wonder in my postmortem thoughts - how did the script writer come up with such hideous dialogues , what was the screenplay guy seriously thinking of , where did the director leave his ( Read more... )

I worked a bit in the film industry and the below-the-line guys (boom operators, grips, whatever) signed on to any old project because they did it for the craft, not the end result. If they could show up on set every day and figure out the best place to position a microphone, they'd be happy. Maybe actors feel something like that, I don't know.

Hey thank u for dropping by and reading. At the end of the day any work is work. But sometimes movie bugs like me and other star crazy fans do question the choices their favorite actors make. I guess when you start off your career any movie is a movie , an experience .... and when establish stars make crazy choices and do crazier movies ... I guess there is a justifiable reason for that too .... Michael Caine's explanation being a case in point.

Thank u once again for dropping by ....

The problem always is there are only so many roles available for actors and all of them want the part - plus - producers and directors want the biggest names they can get, thinking it will get them a better box office result. That's how you get big names in horrible films.

Of course, the other element is that after an actor makes a number of really horrible films, people realize they don't want to see a movie with that person, so they will ruin their own career if they just take the material to get a payday.

I recently saw a film that qualifies: "Very Good Girls" was a very bad movie with a lot of big names, including Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss, who was given almost nothing to do, and was literally chased off screen by another character, when he was the most entertaining thing in the film for about 3 minutes of screentime he got! In fact, I nearly wrote my entry this week about that film because it was a terrible beauty.

For an Industry like the Indian Film Industry which is HUGE they can actually work to make more good sensible movies. But I guess maybe that's not so practical. I too saw a terrible movie with a good actor and the prompt just clicked ..... and hence my attempt. In any case I actually watch all kinds of movies even if they are downright stupid ... sometimes to make me feel better that there are things more stupid than I feel I am .

Thank u so much for reading and the feedback on the subject .... :)

Another reason for good actors to be in bad movies is if all their friends are too. I swear, some movies seem to be the thing that happens accidentally when a whole lot of actors take a vacation together.

This is a great take on this prompt, really fun.

Movies are fun. Watching them is fun, writing them is fun, and making them is fun. I have some idea about this, as I've written, directed, cast and produced a few myself. Sometimes, the ones that are the most fun to make are the ones that are absolutely trying to be bad. I created a terrible western musical once, and had almost everyone involved tell me it was the single most entertaining experience of their careers. To me, that's a success. And, I still enjoy watching it from time to time, because, in its awfulness, it is indeed a terrible thing of beauty. Nice connection to the prompt here.

Do I have a fellow movie bug in you ? Thank u so much for dropping by to read. YES I so agree with you... movies are fun ... and to let u in on a secret I watch and enjoy almost all kinds of movies . And just sometimes my head takes the lead over my heart and gets cribby .... Btw I would love to watch your musical sometime .... And I so totally agree at the end of the day what matters is you had fun creating / making it. Everything else that comes after that is just secondary ....

Ha! Oh this is well-researched and a great read! What a fantastic Caine quote! I really agree with your assessment here - actors want to work like everyone else who plies a trade!
