I first found out about Joe Meek a few years ago, but I'd been a fan of The Tornadoes version of Telstar for a long time. It wasn't until I discovered Screaming Lord Sutch that the shadowy figure of Joe Meek came into focus. Is it true that he had recording techniques that no has been able to replicate?
I agree with your assessment of the Spector version of River Deep Mountain High. Tina Turner's voice on that is incomparable, but it wouldn't send chills down my spine without The Wall of Sound.
Why do the new ideas suffer while the producers with Starbucks blood and pop-fresh dogmatic brains make millions and talk about how great the music industry is now?
