I got thinking about the time my senior english teacher wouldn't let me read Mary Renault because "she is only respected in the gay community". This is, of course, not true. All it proved to me was that I was smarter than my teacher ( Read more... )

The best thing that can happen to an author is to have one's books banned. :) This goes all the way back to the dawn of printing, when Protestant printers were using the Catholic Index to create their hot print lists.

I have a book on my to-read list called "Places I Never Meant to Be" (I think that's the title anyway). It's edited by Judy Blume and has essays by a bunch of authors whose books have been banned. It's a very interesting subject, what's forbidden and why.
