This week, Zissou turned 5. Not too long ago, Ferguson turned 2. On May 5 (aka Cinco do Argyle), Argyle turns 8. I really need to put new pictures of them on my profile here ( Read more... )

idk, think looooong and hard about what it is you want to do. if you can feasibly do it without a phd, take that route... and NEVER attend a program that isn't fully funding you.

don't worry about the math section. i got a 16th percentile and i'm in the game fine. verbal and writing should be well above average. i'm talking over 650v and a 5.5-6 for writing.

Hi! An art history department probably won't care about the math, because they know you're up against engineers and mathematicians applying for grad programs. But--since the test is now organized so that you have to compare two equations (no solving), it helps to know the functions and how they interact. I found Kaplan's book explains the method pretty well. The Kaplan book was also the most aesthetically pleasing of all the books, so I felt motivated to use it ( ... )

Rice crispy treats don't require an oven.

I have also been fantasizing about getting a PhD, but then I remember I'm nowhere near my associate's, let alone bachelor's and master's. Yeesh. Your cart is not as far in front of the horse as mine is, though. I'd recommend looking at your honest motivation to achieve that goal and see if it matches up with what it would take to get it.

i know someone in the art history dept at NU (a grad student), she's very chatty and would certainly make time to talk to you if you were interested.

i'd run screaming from ph.d programs if there's ANY other way you can make money and be reasonably happy :) but i also know it can feel very right and fulfilling. hell, i've been here for years and i'm still torn about academia, but i would generally not recommend a ph.d program to anybody.
