So, the loan we asked for was rejected. We apparently have too much debt and not enough assets and income. This leaves us with precious few options, none of them measured in anything less than 'years

Sorry to hear it won't work this way. However, if you want it bad enough it will eventually happen. You've waited a long time, and so unfortunately you have to wait longer, but don't dispair. Think about ways of changing that income:debt ratio so it CAN happen.

That is more or less the current plan, but like I said, that keeps things in the range of years, and that.. Is a very, very hard thing to cope with.
