Hope everyone had a nice Christmas! Mine was an accurate reflection on who I am. Got about six books on gorillas, one bear book, a wildlife calendar, four documentaries (elephants, orangutans, pandas, baby animals), and one video on Koko, the gorilla who communicates using ASL. I also got the book to go with that last video. Amazingly enough, most ( Read more... )

Glad your holidays went well...and you got the presents you wanted:) It's so lovely that you want to work with orangutans one day and it's sweet the way you talk about them...am sure it'll come true for you:)

Thanks, Dora! I would like to work with them for a bit, but I know I'd still go back to gorillas either way. I love them both, but I can tell my heart is more with the gorillas. I'm the type who completely lights up whenever I see one. :)

I'm actually debating that right now. I want to study animal behavior because I can do that at home at my own pace. I've been debating studying biology, zoology, or primatology. The only problem is that the only school nearby is two hours away and only teaches zoology. I'm far more interested in primatology (teaches about apes, some about biology, some about zoology), even though I don't need to study it. So, my choice now is to either go ahead and study zoology now, or just gain recognition through experience (while studying animal behavior). I'm leaning more to the latter because I'm very interested in using the next ten years as a means to work as many different jobs as possible. I'm very much into variety, plus I learn better through experience, as well as value it far more. And I have experience working with exotic animals already. Would like to continue with that, then maybe volunteer at a zoo in my free time. This would also leave a window open in case I decided to move someplace where they do offer a primatology class, like ( ... )

I'm glad your Christmas was so great hun, and your presents definitely seem perfect for you! I hope you do get to work with orangutans and follow your dreams, I can't think of anyone else as perfect for that job than you :)

I might be completely off with this, but is Koko the gorilla who had a pet cat for a while but she got run over or something and then Koko grieved for her. I remember seeing something like that in a documentary and it struck me how alike gorillas and humans are in many ways.

Glad Daniel liked the necklace and DVD too and that your aunt didn't mind too much :) Although SM3 is so gross in parts!

Thank you, sweetie! I do hope so as well. :)

Yes, that is the same Koko. The pair first became famous when a photo was released of Koko holding the kitten, All-Ball (Koko named her that because she had no tail), because it showed how gentle she was. Years after the death, they asked Koko if she remembered Ball and how she had felt when she lost the kitten. Koko signed, "Cry sad frown". It is sad, but also amazing how much depth of feelings she allows us to see. If a gorilla can feel this deeply, then it shows how deeply all animals must feel.

That is true, though I think I like that one better than the other two. I'd never get those first two for a kid. They went way overboard with the sexual references with no subtlety at all. lol.

Your Christmas day sounded fun.
I was only surprised to know about the pizza. In Portugal, the tradition is to eat cod fish and we have to eat it even thought it has become an endangered species. My mom doesn't care that it will be extinct in 15 years. Tradition is tradition.

All your presents fit you so well. :)

We were going to have the traditional ham for Christmas dinner, but that would've taken too long when all we really wanted to do was nap, so pizza was an easier solution. Makes it more memorable to break tradition anyway. Can just remember it as the Christmas we ate pizza for dinner. :)

We once ate spinach for Xmas (my mum was on a health trip those holidays for some reason so we all had to eat with her;)) so it can never get as bad as that;)...and I think pizza for Xmas is cool...

In Slovenia for both Xmas and Easter we make a special cake, made out of nuts, loads of sugar and some rum...it's delicious and not good to stay slim;) My mum makes it after a recipy from one of her aunts and it's awesome...

I never liked eating spinach. Popeye couldn't convince me either since I was a girl and didn't want those giant muscles. lol.

Fattening food is always nice. Wish it was warm enough for lots of ice cream consumption. :)
