Fibro update/new meds that actually help

Nov 21, 2006 14:37

I've had fibromyalgia and lupus for years, diagnosed in 2000. I've been on a cane since then, with severe pain from my hips to my toes, and in my arms. Fibro is a weird disease, and has been a difficult one for researchers to track down. My doctor was at a conference a few weeks ago, and heard a presentation on the probable cause of fibro, and a ( Read more... )

Wow. I know someone who fits that description. It would make sense. A lot of sense.

Meanwhile, it's wonderful to hear you're off the cane! But you should keep it, maybe make it stylish like Dr. House...

And grabbing errant Dubhs around the neck, and kittens from under beds, and shoes from under couches, and tripping small screaming running children.
Basically, I have a Swiss Army Cane, and I'm not afraid to use it. ;)

That makes so much sense! The symptoms are very similar to rheumatoid, but much harder to pin-point and chemical imbalance (vs. RA's auto-immune) - wow! *light bulbs*

This is such great news for you! I hope the effects last and you don't have to keep upping the meds or anything silly like that! YAY!

I hope so! It's so amazing to be walking at my old usual speed, and without pain. Kind of like a dream, in many ways.

wow. i will have to mention that when i go in.

since getting off caffeine (which i was told can mess with norephinephine levels in some people) my pain has decreased considerably.

the description your Dr gives is very similar to other theories i've heard. i first exhibited fibro symptoms after a severe case of mono, which i believe i got due to the extreme stress i was under at home and at school. it got remarkably worse while i was living in a mold infested house and having non-stop panic attacks. it all makes sense to me.

I've read about a number of people getting fibro after mono, flu, etc. And stress does a number on your body - I was under that kind of stress growing up as well, so the "fight or flight" adrenaline reaction makes sense.
And...with a number of family members with restless leg syndrome (I've got a mild case), the Mirapex will come in handy. ;)

Link away - that's why I made it a public post. ;) I like Cymbalta too, and I've been on a batch of others in my life it works well for me, and it's been a lifesaver with the fibro-beast.

Tell your friend - the one who can't do Cymbalta - that another fibro person has had a lot of luck with Lyrica. I have no experience with it, but she raved about how well it worked for her.
Heh. I love this little info grapevine. :)
