Started knitting a vest. It's not like I have a pattern or know what I'm doing or anything, it's just I have the arrogance to believe I can make it up as I go along. I was apprehended with size 11 plastic circulars in Heathrow - they were very nice and actually let me keep my knitting in my carry-on but made me promise I wouldn't knit on the plane. We can bring needles on most domestic flights in the US now, but for a while we couldn't so I learned to crochet! I can sort-of make crochet flowers now.

My guess is that the stewards etc know exactly how ridiculous the whole situation is, and enforce it not because they think anyone would try to stab the captain with a knitting needle, but because on every flight there's bound to be some dipshit passenger who complains "That person shouldn't be allowed in here with those pointed sticks! Imagine what could happen! Gee, Continental Airlines, you're really not thinking about the safety of your passengers, are you!"

I might ring up some of the airlines ahead of time and see if they've relaxed any- if not, thanks for the crochet tip!

Wait, I thought you were allowed knitting on planes?
They should at least allow circular needles.
Thats so stupid, they'll allow pens but not knitting needles.
