Livin' very small in London

The shopping is pants in London. I mean, it's GREAT, but it's pants because it's so expensive. Admittedly, I ask a lot of a pound. I ask that it do the work of AU$2.56 but it's just not up to the job. Australia is cheaper for a lot of the same things you can get here, and yet of course there's things here that you can't get in Oz but when you tally ( Read more... )

Firstly this is really funny But I know there are a lot of new dogs coming out now which are very small, and we could maybe get one of them

Hard Work is a great book, a UK version of Nickel and Dimed.

I dunno if there is one in London but Primark is a good cheap-y shop (I am certain there will be one somewhere in the capital, I just don't know where), and the quality is good. Also Uniqlo for Gap-type basics at about a third of Gap prices, and cuter designs. Other places which are ok for clothes are H&M (although it's kinda like a jumble sale) Dorothy Perkins, and New Look. All of them you have to look hard to find the gems amongst the less desirable items, but when things go on sale, they can get very cheap (or at least resonable).

Strange, I never think of the UK being expensive until somebody not from Britain mentions it, and then I remember how utterly ripped off we get on lots of things.

Oooh, ta for the shopping tips! I will check out Dorothy Perkins, we've been past a few of those but not gone in- we've only known to go into the ones I've heard of from UK magazines and Topshop and H&M always feature very prominently!

And, I actually got a copy of a new British book, called Shopped, which is all about the supermarket chains and how they're evil (did you know?) for one pound. So I am managing to find SOME bargains! ; )

How come I can live in this wet grey country my whole life and never ever find the books I really want for less than £5? I really want to read Shopped, I've just finished "Not on the Label" which looks at how the constant drive for cheaper food whilst increasing profit have led to a lot of the food produced being either nutritionally deficient, perfect looking but tasting of nothing, and at great cost to everyone but the supermarket.

If you can find a record shop called Fopp in London (they are an independent chain if that makes sense) they sell CDs cheaper than just about anybody.
