When I say, "Only Taco Bell would think of something like this," I mean it in a good way.

I've been thinking about it, and if I was in the direct path of a hurricane (I mean really direct, almost as if it were coming specifically for me), I'd meet it stripped to the waist in the tall grass, holding a lightning rod like a samurai sword with it secretly wired to like a million H-bombs. Except even more dramatic somehow ( Read more... )

That's EXACTLY what I did for Hurricane Irene! Thankfully for the planet, she made landfall about an hour north, instead of here.

I didn't see the new Tron movie and have never heard of Olivia Wilde, but aaaah! She got Zoooooooey Deschanel eyes!

Haha, yes! Not many people can say they stared down the eye of a hurricane, but glad to hear you're okay. I was reading a post on a message board where people were checking in after the hurricane and a lot of them had sad stories to tell.

She does. I bet if they were ever both in a police lineup, it would be filled with women who have huge eyes and it'd make me super uncomfortable if I had to pick one of them out because they'd all be staring at me through the one-way glass. Then I'd have nightmares of giant eyeballs for months.

I laughed when I read the tiny mouse salon bit. That's hilarious.

I agree that if a movie is visually stimulating it can be a little more ridiculous. Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton's version) is a pretty good example of this. (though I still walked away feeling a little disappointed.)

I haven't actually seen it. I kind of mentally checked myself out of seeing it when I saw the previews and it didn't look like something I'd enjoy, but I almost changed my mind when I heard Alan Rickman was doing the voice of the caterpillar. What didn't you like about it?

In my opinion, the plot was just a little too weak for me. You get the sense of walking in on the last 20 minutes of a movie you've never seen before. You get it, but you don't feel like you've resolved very much because you havn't experienced much of the conflict. That's what I pulled from it. And the fact that Alice changes her outfit like, 4 times through-out the movie is a little distracting. (But the outfits themselves are cute.)

The characters are mostly pretty lovable, which was a big plus for me. And of course the looks of the movie are amazing. I wouldn't buy it. I'd like, rent it. It's good enough to watch at least once.

When Olivia Wilde is on screen, I'm not so much paying attention to her eyes ;)

I liked Tron: Legacy, it was the only movie in a very long while that didn't offend me on principle by having a 3D version (we actually saw it in 3D). Hubby is obsessed with Tron, and I like Tron, but I also like Jeff Bridges enough that I'll basically watch him in anything.

Yeah, her eyebrows are pretty distracting too. And I agree with you about Tron: Legacy. While I was watching it I definitely could imagine that a ton of the scenes would look pretty spectacular in 3D. Most of the time it seems like 3D is just a way for movie studios to grab you by the ankles and shake a few more dollars out of you.

It's become a complete joke, because not only do most of these movies not need to be 3D, but at least half the time, converting it to 3D just diminshes the film quality anyway. I'm not paying $15 to see a shitty quality version of a film in a format that gives me headaches anyway :-/

I too loved the mouse salon image. Your mind certainly works in unique ways.

I didn't even notice they had digitally enlarged Johnny's eyes in Alice until they mentioned it in the extras. Now it's all I can see (and as probably the biggest Rickman fan on your F-list, trust me, his Caterpillar is too brief and unsatisfying to be a sole reason for watching. Not that the movie isn't good, but I like Johnny too and I love Burton).

I've had you friended long enough to dispel your doubts about being the number one Alan Rickman fan on my friends list, but yeah, disappointing news to hear about that caterpillar. Urge to see movie fading.

Well, in fairness (and no surprise to you), I won't be satisfied with any Rickman content until someone makes a movie with no one BUT him lasting about six hours long. With audio commentary by him. And a special viewing with him. Plus a recording of me viewing it with him. I think that about covers it.

If you're at all curious, here's my writeup on Alice: some spoilers. Only if you're really interested though.

last time a hurricane was even near me was when i was 4. it was named hugo and i slept through it, and it turned off my night light. i was very angry about that. but i find your plan about the hurricane interesting...though i'd never do it. i lack the adventurous spirit. i think it's all my...no, i don't have any bad adventure experiences to share, so that's not it. hmm.

i tried to play spacechem once. i don't think i tried hard enough because i got annoyed with it and quit. i probably should try again, since i don't think i really gave it a chance, and it is a good puzzle game...

When I was a kid, public service announcement commercials always taught me that during a tornado you would be safe in the bathtub if you placed a mattress on top of it, so whenever there was a thunderstorm I would always race to the bathroom. But that the hurricane would shut off your night light just seems especially evil for some reason.

SpaceChem is good once you get into the groove of how the game expects you to think. For me it had less AHA! moments than times I slowly figured it out by playing around with stuff.
