I can't help much since everyone else has made good suggestions but I can contribute this much :)
In England we call the cardboard boxes 'cartons of xyz'. Not literally xyz, I hasten to add, but.. cartons of pumpkin juice. I say this boldly - it's what everyone I know says, but I'm sure the suggestion of juice boxes is just as legitimate :D The meaning is clear anyway.
As to the train seats, if it's not mentioned then perhaps googling some old English steam trains might be the way forward? I think JK must have had the generic 1950s sort of steam train in mind and it probably wouldn't be hard to find some reference pictures.
Hope that helps! I think you're doing marvellous, marvellous, loveable and delightful things with this series. It makes me happy every time I see an update <3
Just to add to the "cartons of juice" and trains - the windows of older ones slide right down, but the boys could easily lean out of those that only slide to the halfway partition (and I imagined the seats green or brown).

Think of what your portraits could see, if their eyes followed the viewers home. Think of all the possibilities. ;D
