FAQ
SETUP & FORMAT
What style is this game played in?
Action that takes place in
koushien-e will be played in prose style (like fanfic). This means that dialogue will be differentiated from actions using quotes, "like so," and should be written in third person.
Posts made by players in character journals are to be treated as in-character posts by the characters on their own online journals and should be written as such, in first-person. Comments to those journals are online communication between characters and should not include actions. Player-initiated "online events", such as emails, should also be posted to character journals.
Posts made to
loggingkoushien are EITHER records of character interactions "in real life" that were written out by the players in chat, email, or googledocs (standard logs) OR they are transcripts of "net-based" (in-character text, email, or chat) character interactions. If it was not played out in comments on a character journal or in the main community, it should be posted to
loggingkoushien. PLEASE NOTE that logs are posted for players to read and enjoy and are not viewable in-character unless, for example, an in-character email transcript was forwarded in-character by one of the participants to another character. Cases like these should be clearly marked.
Posts made to
koushien-e will include mod-initiated in-character announcements and "online" events that take place on the social networking site (Koushiendream.net) that is built into the game's structure AS WELL AS posts where characters can interact "IRL". All "online" events in
koushien-ewill be posted by the moderators, and as such will be clearly marked with both the modpost! and the "online" tags. Comments to "Online" event posts are to be written as net-based communication and in first person. Conversely, "IRL" character interaction & event posts can be posted by ANY player, and should be clearly marked with the "irl" tag. "IRL" posts are to be written in third person, and the comments to them will include actions and dialogue which should be written in prose style as indicated above (but please do remember the rules, and be sure not to write actions and reactions of characters that you do not play without first discussing it with the character's player).
To make a post out-of-character, post to
outofkoushien.
What is the format of the journal system in this game? (Did I hear you say "in-character chat logs"?)
(Yes.) The setup of this game is that in-character journals are the online journals of the characters, and that hey are communicating with one another online through Koushien Dream, a fictional social networking site based around Japanese high school baseball. On joining the fictional social networking site, characters receive an @koushiendream.net email address that doubles as a chat handle, with which they can contact one another online while logged into the fictional networking service.
Through Koushien Dream's online social network, the characters can also arrange to meet and interact "IRL", but those interactions should be posted to either
loggingkoushien or
koushien-e using character journals, rather than played out in character journals themselves.
In order to ensure that all players can read and enjoy what happens in the community, we ask that posts be left un-locked. Adult content in either the character journals or on the communities should be behind an LJ-cut and tagged as adult.
If posts should be left unlocked, how does my character make things private or use filters?
To make an in-character post private, f-locked, or filtered so as to be only visible from or only blocked from a character or group of characters, use an LJ-cut:
[filtered content goes here]
.
You can filter to/from multiple groups in the same post, by using multiple LJ cuts and indicating the end of one filter and the beginning of the next in [brackets] in the text of of the post:
[Filtered to/from team or character name(s)]
[filtered content goes here]
[end filter]
[Filtered to/from team or character name(s)]
[filtered content goes here]
.
You already talked about
koushien-e,
loggingkoushien and
outofkoushien. What are the other two communities,
watchkoushien and
koushienverse?
watchkoushien is a community created for people who want to follow the RP but don't want to friend every journal related to it. For more information about
watchkoushien, please read to the second-to-last entry in the Other FAQs section of this post!
koushienverse is a community where the players will be able to continue threads or plotlines explored in Alternate Universe events that have been played on the community. It's a place for players to explore and expand without cluttering up
koushien-e or confusing in-game continuity.
I get that the social network is fictional, but what about the domain name? Will I get a real e-mail account?
No. We purposely chose a domain name that is not currently in use. In order to send an email in-character, simply make a post in your character journal using the following format:
To: [character email]@koushiendream.net
From: [character email]@koushiendream.net
Subject:
[your message goes here]
How should I format posts to the communities?
For details on how to format, rate and warn for logs and posts, please see the
Posting Guidelines on
loggingkoushien.
Is struckthrough text in character journals legible in-character or only to players?
This is a little tricky. After thinking about it, we decided that in "online" posts, text that has been struck through like this is legible in-character, unless it has been struck through in an in-character email. When using struckthrough text in the body of an in-character email, it will not be viewable to the characters, but should instead be used to indicate rewritten lines, or lines the character is having particular difficulty in phrasing. In all other cases, though, text which is struckthrough should be considered as ordinary html that the character might be using, just like italics or bold.

OTHER FAQS
In the Tags section of the FAQ, you mentioned something about AU events. What's all that about?
Occasionally, we will arrange to take a break from regular in-game continuity to have AU events that will last between one and two weeks. If you have an idea for an AU event, or would like to help coordinate one, go to the
Event Pitching post.
How do I join?
First, look over the
taken, held, and requested character list. If the character(s) you are interested in playing are available, place a hold request in the comments. Holds will last for one week. Once you have placed your hold, fill out
the application and either post it or a link to it in comments, or send it in a private message (PM) to
mod-calls-lead. A person who has placed a hold on a character will have their application reviewed FIRST, regardless of whether or not another application for the same character (by a player without an active hold) has been received by the mods earlier during the hold period.
Your application will be reviewed and either accepted, denied, or listed as "pending revision" (in the event that some details need to be smoothed out with regards to canon, in-game events, or discussions with other players). Once your application is accepted, create a character journal (if you have not already) and request (with the character journal) to join
koushien-e,
outofkoushien, and
loggingkoushien. Once your request to join the communities has been approved, go to the
player contacts page to add the other character journals to your friends list. After that, just introduce yourself in
outofkoushien, and get started!
How many characters can I play?
We currently have a 2 characters/player limit. Remember that you must meet the
minimum activity requirements with each character you play.
I have an amazing idea for an original character. Can I apply for my OC?
We are currently not accepting original characters. There are, however a large number of characters on and associated with (Nishiura's) rival teams about whom there is very little canon information. Consider applying for one of those characters; we would love to have a full cast!
Is this one of those games where everyone has sex with everyone else?
Maybe? This game sprang from a small group of friends on
oofurikink (though To Koushien! is not affiliated with the kinkmeme). That said, we aren't just a bunch of kinky perverts. We are a bunch of kinky perverts who like plot, character development, and in-character interaction! There may well be explicit sexual content in this game (hence all communities associated with it have been set to warn that it may contain adult concepts and will not be viewable to users 14 and under), but To Koushien! is not in and of itself a flimsy excuse for porn.
What if I don't want to read the porny parts?
All posts that include sexual content will be clearly marked as such using the adult tag.
What if I want to read some, but not all of the porny parts?
You can do that, too! Posts with potentially triggering content (such as dubious consent or unprotected sex) should be marked with a warning. Detailed information on how posts should be warned for can be found in
the Posting Guidelines.
What if I just want to watch?
We welcome anyone who wants to follow the RP. To make things easier for you, we built
watchkoushien, a community just for watchers which will include a weekly roundup of posts to spare your f-lists and save you the trouble of following every journal or bookmarking the mod's f-list! Membership is open, so feel free to join!
I have a question that you haven't answered! What do I do?
Just make a comment to this post! If your question is of a personal nature or you don't want to ask it in a public forum, simply send the mod journal a private message, and we will get back to you as soon as possible with an answer.
