The text below was originally posted on Craigslist (and quickly removed by admins) in response to the ridiculous job offers there soliciting creative services for free (or for very little money). Thanks for the post... it's a rough world out there for artists, I guess. Always has been, may always will be.

I generally am forced to avoid anything that isn't going to pay me, because I really need the motivation of payment in order to do anything, and I'm a poor starving artist.

It's just frustrating, especially looking at places like Craigslist and thinking, gee, I could do this, and would love to, but why don't they feel like paying me?

I'm thinking about reposting this in Philly. Every once in awhile I'll see some repost where some poor fool like me is wondering the same kind of thing. Aren't we better than this? Did we go to school for nothing? Am I destined to work at an art supply store for the rest of my life? ;)

Ah, good luck to us all. We'll need it.

for real. amen. the number of people at my job that approached me about doing a "carcoal drawing" of their sister/brother/son/daughter/nephew/neice as a "christmas present" because it would be "different" was crazy. well.. that "charcoal drawing" costs 100$ in supplies, 15 hours work time, plus frame. sooooo for 2000$ sure you can have a "different" christmas present. now pay up suckas.
