This guy sounds like a nightmare. And a train wreck. :-( I'm really sorry. I think you're doing the right thing by documenting, though. & I also think your family will be doing him a big favor (long term) by holding him accountable. Otherwise he'll never get it right.
You see these people on Dr Phil & other assorted trash shows because it's a universal condition. Every family has a slug. There's a fine line between helping someone out & enabling bad behavior though. Lines have to be drawn, dates set. Rent charged. Stuff like that. Might help light a fire under his ass.
You're spot on with your assessment - although it really does suck to have him around, we know it's the right thing to do. Luckily, David's family has this love-hate balance that's coming out. He's here for the month and is getting all the support and backing he could need, but come Dec 1st, it wouldn't be a surprise if he kicked his ass out, having a job and apartment or not.
Otherwise he'll never get it right.

Dear God. Just... just... words fail. I've got the perfect girl for him though. She works with me (I use "works" VERY loosely,) and believe me... they DESERVE each other.

It would be SO much easier if we could say "oh, he's 12, he'll grow out of it." Maybe 48 is the new 12?
They should totally hook up. That way he'll have a place to live and she can have someone to smack around or whatever her problem is. Everyone wins XD
Just this morning when he was told he was going to be helping with the Thanksgiving food prep, he goes "uh, okaaay, why?" What a petulant assclown! You're going to eat all of our food, dick. It really is a miracle he hasn't "mysteriously" disappeared during the night leaving only the signs of a struggle and a faint blood trail in his wake...
