They have windows (and doors) here that can open at lots of different angles.  Ingenious, totally useful, and really cool.  For example, if I want just a little fresh air in my apartment, I can open it with the hinge at the bottom so there it is only open at the top.  Apparently ( Read more... )

We spent a month in Bonn when my daughter was two and a half. The only thing she remembers is the dual-option windows.

Googling "German toilets" only leads to rants about the "poo shelf," which I'm almost disappointed to say I haven't yet had the pleasure of experiencing.

Really, though, why haven't the Japanese exported their toilet amazingness yet?

Ok, I now know waaayyy more about the poo shelf than I probably needed to. Is it weird that my first reaction was to wonder whether you could angle yourself to poo in the slot?

I agree that I envy the Japanese their ability to automatically analyze their health based on their waste. I think it would be cool to be told whether you are eating enough fiber by your toilet. On the other hand, I recall reading on the internet that some of the water-spraying bidet features cause people to be unable to have unassisted bowel movements...

If it helps, I'm also seriously annoyed at how things close early on Saturdays and are not open at all on Sundays. Marjorly messes with my weekend routine.
