Last week we finished the last disc of the last series of Buffy. Keeping withdrawal symptoms down with chocolate and, of course, ordering Netflix to send me Angel: season 5 stat.
I'm really enjoying the comic. There was one issue that wasn't the strongest, but still decent. The TPB of the first five is coming out soon, I think, so you could just get that if you didn't want to deal with tracking down and paying for them separately.
I personally felt that "Chosen" was very anti-climactic, but I'm not sure if that's because I was spoiled beforehand or if it's something that was lacking from the show itself. The Angel/Buffy kiss at the beginning there didn't seem weird to me when I first watched it, but then again I hadn't seen Angel yet at that point.
Speaking of Angel....what's your final opinion on S4?
I also had some spoilage ahead of time on "Chosen," so yeah, it felt like closure but not a huge thrill ride or anything. Although Sunnydale as a meteor crater was kind of satisfying. :)
Angel:S4, right--I meant to add that Gina Torres' part was quite juicy as well! The whole Jasmine plotline was eerie and interesting, a good rip on the New Age types who overrun L.A. ;) But it was also getting awfully bleak, especially Connor's part. I never hated him still, but he really was getting depressing, so it felt "right" that Angel should smack him into a whole new life. Bring on the Spike, I say!
Oh, and acquiring Wolfram and Hart, that was fun. I foresee some interesting possibilities there--and there have GOT to be a few huge catches, obviously. Curious to see what they all are...
What bugged me most about S4 was what they did to Cordy. I mean, yeah, in the end it wasn't really her, but they did a lot of damage to her as a character up until the point where they did the big reveal. There were a lot of individual good things about S4 (my personal fave is the fight between Angel and Angelus), but looking at it as a whole it is definitely lacking. Thankfully S5 is so full of yumminess that it more than makes up for the badness in S5. There's one character in particular....oh but I won't ruin it, because I was surprised when he showed up and it made the experience so much better not expecting it. :)
I KNOW. The Bangel element pissed me off. I think it was really a gesture by Joss Whedon to the Buffy/Angel camp, which was a rather weak gesture, I felt, as it really didn't seem in character for where Buffy and Angel are now in life (or unlife, whatever). Buffy can be so mature, but at times it has this juvenile preoccupation with "OMGONETRUELOVE!!11!" which really doesn't exist.
I rectified this fault (ha!) in a short fic, if you care to click? Not For Comfort.
I suppose Angel was such a big part of the Buffy show that he really had to come back at least once more before the end, but I'm not sure the snogging was necessary or believable.
Also, lately I haven't liked reading Television Without Pity's recaps, as they're so mean, but they did make me smile a bit when responding to Angel's "I'm not getting any older": "I have screencaps from season 1 that say different, Boreanaz," they said. :D
Thanks for the link! I look forward to more fic now. Woo!
Who hates Xander?!?! If that sentiment is out there, I'm glad I only played on the fringes of Jossfandom! >-O
Anywho, I pretty much agree. I am a huge Buffy/Angel shipper...up to about the middle of season 5 of BtVS /mid-season 2 of AtS, and then I'm lukewarm at best. It was awkward to have that kiss in season 7 - although it did sort of flow with the theme of BtVS that season, which was recalling all of the Sunnydale gang's past. Still, I think it was a shout-out for Angel fans thoroughly disgusted with Spuffy, and that's kind of cheap, IMHO.
You have inspired me to Netflix the series. I miss my Buffy fixes. :-)
Sweet! I love it when I inspire people to do stuff. Well, as long as it's not a drive-by or something.
I was fine with the Buffy/Angel relationship when it was timely, but yeah, it felt weird at season 7.
And I don't know any actual names on the Xander haters, I just know they're out there. I tend to steer clear of "fandom" as well!
Joss did seem to be bringing back all the old gang whenever possible, to say their last hurrahs. That was cool, although I wish we had gotten to see Oz once more. *sigh*

Glad to hear the good review of S5. We just watched the first episode, and Harmony's return was a highly amusing surprise. Looking forward to more.
