I am just curious what you all think about this....

My family will be participating in a Mitochondrial walk on Sept 29th.  Meagan's Genetic disorder is a mitochondrial disorder.  All money will go towards research, cures & treatments of all mito disorders.  I am a carrier & Leah is also affected.  We still have 2 children left to test.  Sami is

I would definately suggest that you suggest putting up a bulletin board somewhere in the entryway since sooo many people come with requests. That way there would be a place to inform the congregation of such happenings without "overwhelming" the bulletin or making it look like the church is sponsoring the event.

I'm wondering if that is his problem with it. That he fears it might look as though the church leaders are telling the congregation to donate to this specific cause... and if that were the case I could understand refusing all submissions so that it doesn't look like the church is always after your money. And of course you always run the gambit with supporting medical research (not that mitochondrial research is controversial but there are other medical causes that are). But I do think there should be a local in the church where member could display such and other needs.

Thanks!! We do have a board but I am not allowed to put it on there either. I can go up to people on my own time & that is it.

Well that's just silly. They should at least allow you to put it on the bulletin board. I'd go up to everyone you can and ask them to spread it around.
When is the walk? Is there a way to donate online?

OH MY...I never thought of putting it in my journal! HEHE.
The walk is on Saturday (Sept 29th). I don't have any online way to do it. People have just been sending me a check written out to me or UMDF
I will post on that so everyone has the information!

I agree with Zann-you should be allowed to put that up on the bulletin board at the very least. I'm shocked he won't let you do that. I can understand not wanting very person and their brother standing up and asking the congregation for money but what's the harm in putting something on the bulletin board? Tons of churches do that.

I don't understand either. He has had people visiting & took an offering for them while they are here (not a missionary...just an old member of the church), he has had single parents & widows stand up & have the congregation give them money, etc so this is less confronting then that! :o/
