My parents bought me a down comforter for Christmas, but I never got a duvet cover for it. Now, moving into a new home and redoing my life in major ways seems as good a time as any to find one. But I'm remembering why I never did it before. I'm impossible to please.

I had to google what a duvet was.

I still don't get it.

Why does one need whatever it is in addition to the down comforter, which I assumed would suffice on it's own?

nak

you can't wash a down comforter, and they are plain white, so you get a duvet for pretty.

i cover mine w/ a plain white one and have a quilted bedspread over both for pretty.

I have a pretty darkish sage green bedspread I was using over it, but I want some more color and "lushness" and pattern I guess. I'm going to ruin that comforter if I don't get a cover for it. But I'm being so picky!!

What Arielle said. The word "duvet" actually means "comforter". So a duvet cover is just a cover for a comforter. Since comforters were traditionally stuffed with down and couldn't be washed, covers are made to be easily removed and washable. My comforter is a plain white, very stainable and as it is not washable, not good. Needs a duvet cover.

Domestications.com has a big variety of sets for you to look at.

Good luck - you may end up sacrificing what you already have - using it in another room perhaps? - to get the look you want. Those greens change just that much to make it impossible to match them.

If I could find the perfect bedspread or coverlet and then just get a plain duvet cover, that might work, I guess. But you are right. Matching up the greens or even getting them to blend may be impossible.

In this case I do NEED to get a cover soon so I don't ruin the comforter. Just don't want to settle, you know?

Having a light bed makes a big difference to me. Even if my entire house is trashed, I feel SO much better just by making my bed. The one decorating thing I was sure of when I got married was that I wanted an entirely white bed. I couldn't find the white quilted bedspread I wanted for the registry, so the woman I worked for gave an old one of hers and it is perfect. My room is sunny and bright and that white stretch of neat bedspread makes me so happy I walk into my room to look at it every time I'm feeling overwhelmed by the rest of my cramped, messy apartment :)

You'd think having an all white bed is a disaster with little kids, but I can bleach everything on my bed. My shower curtain is exactly the same as my bedspread, and I just bleach that too :)

why don't you just buy a cheap one that you only kinda like so you don't have to be rushed into buying the perfect one? do you have an Ikea? you can look online at their stuff but I think there is a bigger selection in the stores. did you try eaby (my fav) or etsy?
