OK so I had an interesting conversation with the girls last night. I was getting the girls ready for bed and Chloe asked me when she would be able to get a baby of her own. I told her well.... you would have to be an adult, and be married. And she said oh yeah, you have to have a husband that loves you and your love has to be great enough to make a ( Read more... )

Answer only what is asked. christianlady November 15 2008, 14:52:22 UTC
I answer what is asked. You now have the "daddy and mommy roll around thing." I would just add, "God makes daddys to have something like a seed. The mommies have a womb, and he gives mommy the seed that begins a baby." If they then ask how, you can explain that the seed is called sperm and mommy has an egg. Only go the next level if they ask. I have explained to a point with my children, my 10 year old daughter knows a lot more in terms of "where babies come from" because I explained it on the birth end of things...that they come out of a place next to where you pee and I named it. I just add a little bit at a time. My 12 year old son doesn't want to hear it at all, though I've tried. Dad is nervous and has yet to tell him the physical mechanics. We homeschool, so we don't get the 5th grade movie. I believe my son needs to be told by 14 years old or a friend will tell him.

I don't know of any books, sorry.

My mom taught us through a book called "how babies are made!" I would give anything to have it now. I remember reading it all through childhood. I haven't seen it since we moved when I was in jr high. I'll have to check their attic! :)

I've searched for that book and it's no longer being printed. The copies I have seen are astronomical. Apparently it's a classic. It went from plants to animals then final human reproduction...

My parents were always open with us and never tried to hide or sugar coat things. By first grade I knew about ovulation, periods, sex and all about right and wrong touches, etc. About 18 months ago the kids started asking about babies bc J's sister was pregnant and a few of our friends had babies around then. Jay ordered a few good rated books from amazon and we all read them together then had a Q and A after. They're aimed at preK-2nd grade kids and were perfect. They know what sex is and how exactly babies get in the mom's womb. They also are really mature kids and know that just because we talk about this not all families do and not to go around sharing the info with their classmates. I explained to both their teachers what was going on and we had no problems. Ada did tell my sil (at almost 4) "you have to have 'the sex' to get a baby!" :p ( ... )

Ive always been very open too. Shay hasnt asked til now but brooke asked alot when she was little so we were very open with her.
Dylan never asked aot but had watched the movie etc..and when he was about 12 I saw in a journal type thing he wrote in that he was sinning...
then went on to read that masturbation was sinning and how bad he felt he had done that. I was horrified that I had not explained enough to my child to have had him think such a thing. Poor kid. Something to me that is normal and part of hormones, curiousity etc and he thought he had sinned. I still shudder. Jim took him to his room and told him I had accidentally read that but we needed him to know it was ok. He wasnt bad.
Course not every mother wants the thoughts of her little boys growing up and doing that...lol BUT..
we took a whole new approach when it cam eto Avery and same as we will with Shay.

Mine aren't asking too much where babies come from. Grace (3) knows they come from Mommy's belly, but hasn't asked much beyond that. I went to christianbooks.com to see if they had any books for how babies are made, bu I can't personally recommend any of them because I haven't looked through them. Here's one that might be worth looking into: http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=614162&netp_id=532045&event=ESRCN&item_code=WW&view=covers... )

I'd look for a good book but personally I might stay away from the whole god thing and stick with the actual facts. i'd keep it very simple, but very truthful. kids are usually satisfied with simple answers, even so much as "the man puts his penis in a woman's vagina and releases sperm and they meet with the woman's egg and a baby grows".
