[ Action, Voice BACKDATED to the late afternoon of yesterday, 9/14 ]

[The morning was beautiful in its normalcy. She'll look back on it and wonder at the fact that she ever let Maes go. She should have been holding onto him. She should have spent every minute with him - it is somehow impossible to her that he would be gone while she was there. She wouldn't think anything could separate them. This was twice she' ( Read more... )

[For some reason this hits Leo a little harder than he would have expected.]

Maes? He's...he's gone? [He doesn't know the woman, but if she's truly his wife, it must be hard on her.] I'm sorry, he was a great man. [From the little time he knew him.

He really was. B-be sure to keep him in your memory. [Because now that he's gone, memory is the only place he exists.]

I will. He'll live on in memory. [Memory is better than nothing. He'll find a way to remember him.]

What are these pictures mentioned? [Some small part of him wonders if he was considered one of the mans 'friends'.]

Mr. Hughes was very fond of his camera. He loved to take pictures of people. [Especially his wife and daughter.]

[Selphie can't bring herself to respond to this. The sadness and grief hit her both in a deadly combo where the only thing left behind on the paper is a smattering of wet blotches that will fade over time.

She'll have to go plant some more bulbs in her corner of the memory garden right next to the small tree she'd planted in memory of Yao. Maes was one of her first friends here after all.]

[The entry was an unexpected and unpleasant surprise, to say the least; to call it bad news would be the understatement of the year. Hughes is gone. He's out of Luceti. He's sent back.

Which means he's dead.

There was a bit of cursing and smacking of hospital furniture involved after the revelation, and it's probably a good thing that the journal wasn't recording it, because it wasn't something for young or motherly ears. Al isn't with him in the room at the time, so after calming down a reasonable amount Edward scribbles out a note for his brother, takes both of their journals under his one currently-working arm, and starts to hobble home. He'd been giving some serious thought to the idea of moving out of the house when he recovered, but with this new development... yeah, that's not a good idea. Hope the household is ready for a slightly anemic, injured, and unhappy alchemist, because they're apparently stuck with him for the long haul.

Either way, he'll be seeking them out.]

[Winry happens to be sitting in the living room answering voice replies to Gracia's entry when Ed makes his way to the house. When he's in the door she looks over, and pales a little when she sees him.]

E-Ed? Why aren't you in the clinic?

[Ed's not sure whether he should be worried or relieved to be facing Winry rather than Gracia herself when he arrives, but he's really going to have to get used to it if he's going to be living there again, and. Well, this really isn't about him. He scratches his cheek a little awkwardly, his gaze averted. Why does she think he's here? Geez.]

'm sick of looking at white walls all day. Anyway, I'm fine now.

[Though Al would punch him for using that word, after the fight they had.]

Don't be an idiot. You should sit down, or get to your bed - did you come from there alone?

[Hughes... Gelda didn't know him that well, but she certainly knows what a kind and enthusiastic man he was- is. Especially when it comes down to Elicia.]

Of course. School will not be starting next week just yet, so please don't worry about classes. Meanwhile, both Professor Sage and I would be happy to discuss the matter whenever you feel ready.

[Even though she and Hughes had only spoken a few times, that was enough for Grune to consider him a friend. He gave her one of her most treasured possessions--a photograph of her and Dhaos from when they were married and happy together--and he was always very kind to her.

...But she still doesn't quite understand what Gracia means. These situations are hard on her broken memory.]

...Oh, did he go on a trip?

Yes. He's no longer here. [Or anywhere, aside from his grave.]
