The text from Dylan the night before had made her worry a bit, but Hilary had often worried about her boyfriend when it came to his father on more than one occasion. She wasn't sure what the meeting was exactly about this time, but she trusted him to tell her when he was ready when he got back the next day

He liked the decorations. The artistic eye that Hilary had was one of the many things he adored about her. Dylan could play a song on a couple of instruments, but he relied on Hils and his mom to show him art. They had the knack for it, and he liked to see the world through their eyes.
Leaning against her, he managed to actually complete the smile when she said it was over. "Christmas break. I hope you've been fasting since we have so many places to visit over the next week." It wasn't that he was avoiding talking about Tony. It was just taking him a moment to come up with how to say what he wanted to say.
"We had a fight. I started it and it got well, you know how I get when I'm very angry. I'm not sure what I expected or wanted from it, but last night wasn't it.
