This has been popping up on friends' LJs. I like it. Let's see if I can do it without having print copies of all the books here:

Choose five of your all-time favorite books. (It's not gonna be five. It's gonna be some random number. Bear with me) Take the first sentence of the first chapter and make a list in your journal. Don't reveal the author ( Read more... )

Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.

I remember this one! Ms. Haug had us read it in English senior year. Anyway, it's One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Good book, that.

I think I'm correct on these:
6 is Dune by Frank Herbert
8 is Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
11 is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams (although I was fairly certain that was an unregarded yellow sun, so I could be wrong)

Haha, oops. My roommate was narrating that one to me, as I didn't know it and didn't have the book handy.

this is a fun game. you should reveal the answers later. my guesses:

1. zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance
3. 100 years of solitude
8. catcher in the rye
11. the hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy!!

ok, that's all i think i know.

I'm pretty sure #12 is The Giver.

Yeah, 8 was so obvious it hurt. Hehehe. Good ol' Houlden Caulfield... and 11, well, yes, that too. :)
