This past weekend rocked!!

This weekend was so cool, I had so much fun playing archaea and just BSing around the campfire after the event was called for the night. I don't normally get a lot of time to talk or hang out with the people outside of the games but I actually got to talk to them at the camps afterward. These people kick ass ( Read more... )

The people who refer to it as Ar-gay-a are only seeking to present their own character impurities at the surface of their being so that they might be burned off.

Until such a time as those impurities are removed, these people are ignorant asses.

That is true but it still pisses me off either way. Why you still up? I thought you went home to sleep?

You mean something like 5 hours ago? Been up and about. Didn't feel like sticking around at Denny's. Our previous conversation was disgusting to me, when considered in retrospect and after filling my stomach.

Besides, we had all weekend at the campout and a significant period of Sunday afternoon at McD's to talk Archaea-shop.

Just like to note that I've called it "Argaya" at most a total of 5 times. And I'd also like to note that I did so only after hearing others use that term. Others, I'd like to note, that are involved in the game. I have not used that term because it was created by a homosexual, it's merely something that rhymed and poked a little fun at Archea, much like the term "Dorkon". And I don't want to hear any bullshit about that being different, because to acknowledge that calling someone gay is worse than calling someone a dork would be to show your own prejudice.

Oh, and by the way... Asking someone, politely, to stop doing something usually yields better results than idle threats.

Hey Ian,

Please stop refering to it as Argaya. I think it's ignorant, no matter how one justifies the use of the term. Though, admittedly, I don't want to punch you in the face for it. That seems rash.

I actually think your position is quite indefensible. I don't think calling you on the difference between gay and dork would be exposing prejudice. In order for you to poke fun at something, there has to be ridicule involved. And, in this instance, you are indicating that being gay is wrong and/or deserving of ridicule.

Yes, you are right it is an ignorant term, and it shows my ignorance for ever using it. Though my use of this word was never meant as an insult toward the creator/mediator of the game. And my position on the dork/ gay thing comes from my own experience of being called gay and dork. Neither term is more or less hurtful to me. I realized a while back that the term was offending people, and I have not used it since until this thread. Others have used it in my presence and I have said, "Yeah, Archea" hoping that I might be able to subtly dissuade them from using the term as well. Every one makes mistakes. My only reason I took the stance I did in my last comment was because of the manner in which it was brought up. Threats of being punched in the face usually make me a little defensive, even if the threat is not completely directed at me.

Sounds like you are pretty on the level about the issue, with this viewpoint presented in your comment considered. As far as you dissuading people from misusing the term, that's awesome. Any work undertaken to help put a stop to the defamation of homosexuality is practically community service as far as I'm concerned.
