Chapter 2
It had been three months since Jaejoong had called him to tell him they were over, and it had been probably the worst and more difficult 3 months that Yunho had ever had.
The first week had been pure hell. He kept on thinking and analyzing himself, trying to figure out what he had done wrong. Yes, because Yunho had thought he was the one to blame. He came up with several options. Maybe he had asphyxiated Jaejoong, after all he was more like a serious and responsible person, meanwhile Jaejoong was definitely more outgoing and wild.
Heechul and Donghae had been there since day one, always supporting him. So, Yunho knew he had been blessed with some good best friends. Donghae had been really comprehensive, always listening to him, to the way he felt, or how he perceived what was happening. Meanwhile Heechul had been the one obliging him to go to work and get out of bed, always telling him how much of a whore and loser Jaejoong was for dumping him in the process. Yunho didn’t know if he should thank Heechul or not, though.
He knew Jaejoong had been quite cruel at doing that just before getting married, but Yunho couldn’t help but still be deeply in love with him. It was stupid and maybe he should be more strong or have a little bit of dignity (as Heechul had stated several times, angrily), but he was sure he was willing to forgive Jaejoong.
“So? Spit it,” Heechul demanded, sitting beside his friend. They were currently on Yunho’s apartment. He had just come back from Jaejoong’s house after The Kim’s had told him they wanted to talk to him about Jaejoong.
Yunho sighed. “In summary, they told me how ashamed they were about the way Jaejoong had acted, and Mr. Kim personally told me I was a good man and I didn’t deserve anything Jae had done to me,” he mumbled.
“Well, it’s the truth, Yun!” Heechul exclaimed, patting his friend’s back slightly. “I don’t get why you even called Jaejoong several times! He doesn’t deserve you at all!”
“Please, Hee. Can’t we talk about something else?” Yunho asked hopefully.
Heechul sighed and nodded. “Ok…oh, by the way, don’t you wanna go to this new club with me and Donghae?” He asked excitedly.
“I’m not sure, Hee,” Yunho replied unsure. He bit his lower lip and thought about it. He knew his friends and he knew they would end up trying to set him up with someone, and he really wasn’t in the mood for that. “I think I’ll pass. I’m really tired.”
Heechul knew instinctively that it was a huge ass lie, but he wasn’t going to force his friend this time, at least. “Ok, whatever you want.”
*****
Without you, I'm nothing.
Without you, I'm nothing.
Without you, I'm nothing.
Take the plan, spin it sideways.
Without you, I'm nothing at all.
Yunho opened his eyes. Maybe listening to such depressive songs wasn’t such a good idea when he was alone in the very same apartment he used to share with his now gone husband.
“Let’s see what’s on TV,” he murmured to himself, getting from the bed to turn off the stereo and grabbing the remote control in the process.
He turned on the TV and started changing channels, looking for something interesting. He pondered for some time if it would have been a better idea to go out with Heechul and Donghae instead, since he was feeling extremely bored and bored Yunho usually led to over analyzing Yunho, and that would end up in a calling-Jaejoong Yunho.
Finally, he found something mildly interesting on the Animal Planet about lions and hyenas. He was watching a very interesting fight between a male lion and 4 hyenas. The lion had just killed one hyena, and he was biting his nails, wondering if the other 3 would make it out alive or not.
Then, his phone went off, and he picked it up without even looking at the ID of the caller. Sure it was Heechul, anyways.
“Hello,” he answered uninterestedly, still watching the TV.
“Yunho?” A voice asked at the other end.
That voice made Yunho’s heart clench. “J-Jaejoong? Is it you?” He asked hopefully. It was so strange how he only needed to hear Jaejoong’s soft voice to fall for him all over again.
Damn! He felt in day one again.
“Yun, you’ve been calling me.” It was more a statement than a question. “I need to ask you to please stop trying to contact me.”
Yunho breathed in and out loudly. “Jae, please come back! I- We can get over this, baby! I love you! I can change whatever I did wrong…just please!” He practically pleaded. Maybe it was the wrong move, and surely Heechul would hit him for doing so, but he didn’t really care.
A sad laugh was heard at the other end. “Yun, I already told you it’s me, not you,” Jaejoong paused. “I love you, and you know it. But I just happen to love Yoochun more than I love you. I don’t want to hurt you, Yun. So tomorrow one of my sisters is coming to our apartment to pick up my things. I will be staying here in Tokyo with Yoochun. So please, stop calling me already.”
“Well, sorry for breaking the fucking news but you hurt me the moment you told me you slept with that fucking doctor, just after we got fucking married!” Yunho screamed, feeling a huge lump in his throat that he pathetically tried to swallow with no success.
“Stop calling me, Yunho,” Jaejoong said before hanging up.
Yunho stood there, not really knowing what to do or how to react anymore. He didn’t know if he wanted to scream, cry, punch something, run…or something else. He was hurt and he was angry.
Deep inside, he had wanted to think that he and Jaejoong could be together again. That his husband cared for him and still loved him, but this call had just proved him wrong.
If Jaejoong had really cared for him, he wouldn’t have let Yunho have one of the most amazing nights the day before their wedding, he wouldn’t have married Yunho, and mostly, he wouldn’t have cheated at all!
“Ah!” Yunho screamed out in frustration. He grabbed the remote control again, turned off the TV and violently got up to grab his car keys. He needed to get out of there and he needed it now!
When he went to the coffee table to take his keys, he noticed that YunJae (the fish he had bought the day before his wedding) has floating and not moving.
Yunho sighed. This really wasn’t his day! Not only he had found out there was no hope in his relationship with Jaejoong, but also their fish just died!
Oh, the irony!
He grabbed YunJae with one hand and walked to the bathroom to get rid of the corpse. He threw it in the toilet and flushed it, watching how the fish disappeared. Maybe it was a sign about how he should as well flush his heart (or something like that) and get rid of the love he felt for his husband.
Yunho got out of the bathroom and grabbed his keys. He thought for a moment if he should call his friends, but opted for not doing that. He closed the door of his apartment behind him and walked down the stairs, wondering where he should go or what he should do to calm himself.
By the time he reached his car in the parking lot, he had decided to play a visit to the nearest movie theater. That would surely distract him, so he got into his car and drove to it.
Once he arrived, Yunho parked his car. It was right there, after he got out of his car, that he noticed how the queue was basically made of couples, and that alone made him want to snap at everybody for some reason.
Yunho usually was a very nice and laid back person, but today he found everything irritating and extremely annoying.
“Hey! Aren’t yo-“ Someone behind Yunho started to say, but unfortunately Yunho didn’t let them finish because he snapped.
“Yes! I’m here alone! Now, shut the fuck up and fuck off!” He exclaimed, not even looking at the person behind him.
Yunho ended up buying a ticket for an action movie. The last thing he wanted to see was a romantic movie. After all, love in movies wasn’t as love was in real life, like he used to believe before.
*****
Heechul happily pushed Yunho into the pet store just a few blocks away from his apartment. The older man had just convinced Yunho that he needed a pet in order to not being so pathetic and lonely at least.
“Hi,” Yunho politely bowed at the same tall boy that had helped him the other time.
The boy turned to look at Yunho and glared at him, not even caring so say hi back or anything like that.
Yunho felt that intense glare on him and bravely got closer to the cash desk. “How are you?” He asked, trying to test the waters.
“What do you want?” The boy retorted angrily.
For some reason, Yunho felt as if this was his fault. Even though he had only seen this guy once in his life and he was sure he did pay and did nothing wrong that time. He boy had even waved goodbye to him for God’s sake!
“May I ask why are you being this angry and cold with me?” Yunho dared to ask.
“Does ‘Yes! I’m alone! Now shut the fuck up and fuck off!’ ring a bell to you?” The boy answered faking a smile.
Yunho felt his cheeks flush as he remembered the exact time when he said that. Well, lately karma has been a bitch to him, even though he always tried to make good actions. “Oh my God! It was you!” He exclaimed, extremely embarrassed. “I-I was having a really bad day and I truly didn’t know it was you! I thought you were only a kid, asking me why I was alone at the movies or make fun of me! I never realized it was you! I’m so sorry! Please, forgive me!”
The boy sighed and nodded tiredly. “It’s ok. Forget about it.”
“Can I ask what’s your name?” Yunho asked, wanting to somehow show this boy that he was really sorry by showing some interest.
“Changmin. Shim Changmin,” the boy responded nonchalantly.
“Ok, Changmin-shi. My name is Jung Yunho, and I was wondering if you could help me?” he asked with a genuine smile. “Look…unfortunately, the fish I bought died…”
Changmin looked at him suspiciously and Yunho immediately continued. “I swear I took care of him really well. I swear!” He defended himself at the boy’s accusing eyes.
“Yeah, yeah. I believe you,” Changmin responded. “Stop beating around the bush and just tell me what do you want?”
Heechul raised an eyebrow, looking interestingly at the exchange or glances and words and smiled. Maybe it was better if he didn’t say a word for now, anyways it wasn’t as if Yunho was acknowledging his presence at the moment.
“I want a dog,” Yunho stated. “A cute and small one,” he continued, walking towards the area where the dogs in exhibition were, with Changmin following him behind. “Like that one! I want that one!” He said, pointing at the small maltese in front of them.
“Well, that’s my dog: Mangdong. So you can’t have it,” Changmin explained. He bit his lower lip and hummed for a few seconds before a grin appeared in his face. “But I think I have the perfect dog for you! Come here.”
Yunho followed Changmin, who showed him a small black and white fluffy and very cute puppy. “It’s perfect!”
Changmin nodded. “Yes, it is! This is just what you need…but are you aware that taking care or a dog is more complicated and more of a responsibility than a fish?” He asked concerned. “I don’t want you to come back months later to tell me it died!”
Yunho blushed. “I told you I did took care of the fish and I will take care of this puppy! But I’m afraid I’m gonna need your advices. I don’t know much about dogs and pets in general,” he added, smiling slightly.
“Ok, I’ll gladly help, then,” Changmin responded, carrying the puppy in his arms and caressing it tenderly. “So? You want this one?”
“Yes!”
*****
Yunho and his friend, Heechul, as he had introduced himself had just exited the store when Junsu, the co-owner of the store, came over to where Changmin was.
“You gave him a Siberian Husky,” Junsu stated, sighing.
Changmin shrugged. “So?” He asked.
“He wanted a small dog, Min. I heard when he clearly said that!” Junsu argued. “Why did you do that?”
“C’mon, Su! A Siberian Husky is hardly a big dog! He deserved it, so be thankful that I didn’t give him the Great Dane, ok?” Changmin responded with an amused smile on his face.
Junsu sighed. “He’s gonna be so mad when he realizes his dog just keeps on growing…” He knew it wasn’t the right to do, but he had to admit it was kinda funny.
“Too bad I don’t give a shit.” Changmin laughed amusingly.
