I love living in the country. Fresh air, an abundance of trees and birds and flowers, no neighbors within hollering distance watching me have lightsaber battles in the yard with my kids.

I love living in the country, but sadly, I am no country girl. I can't build a root cellar or make a snare and apparently, I don't know the first thing about mice.

I had a pet mouse for a while. She lived 2 1/2 years. AW

I had hamsters as a child. These little brown mice were darling, but also wild. I tried to save the babies, but they didn't live long after their mother died :(

I like the contrast of hilarity and upset; it shows how almost anything's mood can turn on a dime. (I found one typo, if you want to know - I think a bomb is defused. Diffuse means to spread out.)

I'd guess cockroaches can swim too. I don't think they and rodents would have survived so long not being able to.

As for "a spider as big as a gerbil," I can only say:

LOL! You are so right about defuse - to diffuse a bomb would be to make sure it's hair didn't get all frizzy when I blow dried it!

Cockroaches CAN swim! And ants too..I really don't like ants.
