Prepping for Disney

Jan 11, 2010 13:05

I have started to get preperations ready for the big Disney trip, and I guess Botcon too, but Disney is the main focus here. This is going to be the longest trip I have taken since I was a kid. The tickets went up this past week, anyone know when would be the best time to purchase them? Should I get them now or can I wait a few months? Already ( Read more... )

The Marvel island in Universal is still entirely Universal, a Disney ticket won't get you in. The contract keeping it alive will be honored, but you can probably put money down that once it's expired another theme will move into that section of the park.

The Marvel island, like all the others, is also really dated.

Anyway, the convention rates for the all-day tickets seem to be Not Much Cheaper than the actual price, but a discount's a discount, right?

But a 5-day park hopper should be okay. The only risk is that it's summer, there will be crowds. Strategic use of the (free) FastPass system is recommended.

Yeah just mentioned the Marvel thing jokingly, but it does make it more Disney themed, right?

If Marvel si dated, does that mean that Mary Jane is still married to Peter Parker there?

Anyway, come June here's a list of things that don't suck in Universal:

Studios:
Men in Black
The Simpsons (They even have a Squishee stand outside)
Jaws (cheesy, but a cheesy classic)
Disaster! Starring You! (Really funny.)
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

Islands of Adventure - Marvel
Spider-Man

Islands of Adventure - Jurassic Park
The flume ride is dull, but you like dinosaurs and there are plenty

Islands of Adventure - The Lost Continent
Harry Potter's taking up a healthy chunk of this thing

Islands of Adventure - Seuss Landing
Super Kiddy, but pretty charming to walk through.

The list of things that don't suck in the Disney parks is much grander. You need multiple days for WDW; get up at a reasonable hour and you can swing Universal in a day.

From what I can, Disney Hollywood Studios looks to be the msot balh of the four, with just Tower of Terror, Star Tours, Aerosmith Coaster and Muppets, plus a trip on the Great American Movie Ride that merit any real excitement. Is there anything else in that Park that is worthwhile? I somehow doubt the American Idol Experience would merit a visit.

Universal have the ET Ride? I would not mind going on that either if it is interesting.

How about Seaworld, how's that Park? Last tiem I was there I was four, so I have no memory at all of it, other then Shamoo.

As goofy as it sounds, I am actually really looking foward to riding the Monorail, heh.

We should also decide on what days we want to do what. I'm coming in on Wednesday, so at the very least, please, please, please, PLEASE hold off on Harry Potter until I get there!

Harry Potter Land features "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey". With a name like that I am more apt to think fo ti a ride devoted to HP creepy fanfics then then the official stuff.

All descriptions point to it being a new type of ride centering around highlights of all seven books. I don't think the designers are stupid enough to cater to 'shippers and the like while ignoring the mainstream that is their bread and butter.
