Nome: mammals
Our first non-avian wildlife sighting was a cow and calf moose rather far away in the coastal plain as we were almost back to Nome the first day of birding. Moose are not exactly exotic to former Fairbanksans but we wanted to see some anyway. We saw 68 species of birds on this trip, many of which I have only seen once or twice before or certainly not regularly. 7-10 life birds, depending on whether one juvenile was actually a bluethroat (I did not see it very well) and the vagaries of my life list which I have been terrible at keeping up the last few years. I am all packed, though I feel very disorganized. It's not like I haven't been through this weekend six times, but I'm not used to having to pack for it. I have a gi and everything that goes with that, a set of nice clothes, some casual clothes, birding stuff, books, a pile of papers about eelgrass (yay). Flights: fine. Anc-Sea got in half an hour early, which surprised me, as I hadn't heard them say the flight time. I had a cup of tea on that flight, then promptly fell asleep, so don't know if the tea worked but at least I got some rest ( Read more... ) -

RT's having us practice backfist from what I call "Do we have a problem?" stance. Left arm folded across the chest, right elbow propped on left fist, right hand up by the chin.
