So for the past year or so I've been thinking more seriously about replacing my current truck, an old Ford diesel, withsomething else. In some respects it is way overkill for my needs in the past few years, and has proven to be inadequate in other ways. I'm of the mindset thats it's better to just buy what you want rather than try to take something ( Read more... )

WWII vintage shipyard gantry crane, definately has a mind of it's own, but if you need to pull an engine or paint a trailer frame, it's the best job perk eVar!

I know what you mean about trying to build your own. I just don't have any free time (especially in a place with good tools) to do that sort of stuff anymore. If I had your free time and tools, I'd be having all sorts of fun too.

So the new green truck is a diesel now? That was fast work. Did you have to use my Tundra to get it out of the mud?

The green truck is gonna be a diesel one of these weekends, hopefully next weekend. Work all of a sudden got rediculously busy, but the heavy lifting part of the swap is ready to happen at any time I get to it.

I got a question about the part:
"Current Music: 3 live dogs snoozing"

I know of Lucy and Magnum, but who is dog number 3?

With everyone always leaving the area and leaving vehicles they don't want behind there are always great opportunities available. I got my ford explorer 4wd for 1100 from a friend that himself acquired a new vehicle and knew I needed one. I have gotten a much wider range of experiences with different types of vehicles here under all sorts of different conditions.

man, after hearing stories of property abandonment from you and "he who probably shouldn't be named" makes me want to head up there with truck and trailer for the summer and see what I can collect to take south and keep or put up on ebay to make money!

Damn, I wish I had the skill to fix my own car when it needed a clutch and transmission. I finally decided to get something new, with a warranty. I've had my share of bad used cars in the past that have always needed quite a bit of work.

Damn, I wish I lacked the skill to fix my own car so I could justify just taking it to a shop and paying the money to get it fixed!

Seriously, I work on my own stuff for two reasons. With my "toy" vehicles, tinkering is part of the fun. It's like building a computer I guess, it takes a bit of effort but you learn alot in the process and get a bit of satisfaction knowing you did it yourself. With my daily driver (subaru wagon) I do it because I feel I'm obligated.

I often wish I had no clue what I was doing, so I could just take things to a mechanic, work a bit of overtime to pay for it, and be done with it all!

If you're geo weren't on the opposite side of the continent, I'd soooooo buy it off you and come get it with my truck and car trailer :p

Yeah, I know it can be fixed for $400 and some change in parts. But if it were nor starting to rust - badly, I wouldn't consider trading it in at this point...I just don't want to run the risk of selling it, and having it come back to me a week later with something else wrong...
