Reflections on Marriage

May 26, 2009 13:23

Ellie, talented creative force that she is, recently gave me a mixed CD revolving around a character on a show I've never seen. It's a damn good mix; so good, I've been considering adding the show to my Tivo's list and attempting to catch up. I was listening to this CD as I drove back to work this afternoon and Ingrid Michaelson's song "Be Ok" is ( Read more... )

Civil unions are Splenda to marriage's sugar. There's really no comparison. I sincerely hope that we can turn this around Real Soon Now, because this, frankly, sucks. And not in any fun way.

THis is probably the best analogy I've heard for it. Splenda is better than nothing, but it's not sugar, it's not as good as sugar, and anybody who tells you differently needs their head checked.

Angry people are tasty. "Get over it" lady sounds like she'd make a fantastic stew.

The initiative process in this state is nuts. If tomorrow 51% of the state decided churches had no non-profit status, or that we'd all wear squids on our heads...would we really allow the majority to step all over the rights of the minority?

'Cause I'm damned if I'm wearing squid.

Hugs to you and your lovely fiancee.

*hugs* I much prefer the idea of singling out one religion and stripping their right to marriage.... Bwahahaha.

I'll do you one better...strip their right to purchase food. After all, they can grow their own, right?

*pets your pretty icon* Yeah, how the hell are Kirk and McCoy ever going to get married in SF at this rate? :)

What's strange to me is this leaves the CA Constitution wide open to any majority group that feels like singling out a minority and creating a law against them. Hmm. Maybe we should... outlaw marriage for Mormons? They can get civil unions, though.

This is why California is broke. It broke in 1978 when people decided they could vote themselves free shit, and it failed once and for all in 2008 when people decided they could vote away people's rights. Until there's a completely new constitution, with zero provision for recalls, initiatives or propositions, you can expect the clown show to continue apace.

Meanwhile, I wouldn't want to be the next missionary who knocks on the door of Ploughboy Mansion West. I hear the proprietor is a particularly mean and nasty drunk.

Really. To make that point, someone should introduce a proposition on the next ballot to re-segregate drinking fountains. The sad thing is, here in GA it would probably pass.

Hell I'm already planning to pick up more poster board for upcoming protests.

Also I am delighted you enjoyed the mix so much, and you're welcome to come watch "The Unusuals" with me any time you like ;)

No compromise. No surrender. No substitutions. And the next person that says "get over it" gets a steel-toed enema in UK11.

I wrote off one home state. This one, I can fix. And in the meantime, I am prepared to bridesmate as many times as are required, no matter how many bacheloresque parties I have to stroke checks for.

Non Nobis FUCKING Solum.
