Reflections on Marriage

Ellie, talented creative force that she is, recently gave me a mixed CD revolving around a character on a show I've never seen. It's a damn good mix; so good, I've been considering adding the show to my Tivo's list and attempting to catch up. I suspect we'll be taking it back to the voters instead of back to court, personally. I just hope we can come up with some better ads this time around....

I do think it'll eventually end up back with the voters as well.

Obviously they need to hire da_zhuang to make some commercials!

FWIW, I would be in favor of rewriting the legal code to dump marriage entirely and make'em all civil unions. Let churches marry or not as they see fit; everything else becomes essentially contract law. That would be an equalizer for which all the bigots out there could suck eggs. "You want the government out of marriage? Here - take it."

It's marriage for everyone or marriage for no one. :-)

Amen to that, my thoughts exactly.

I understand that the gov't thinks that marriage makes for a more stable society, so they offer perks to married couples. But in that case, why not try to get as many people married as possible? And/or why not penalize couples who divorce and remarry multiple times, as they're clearly not contributing to the stability of society? The whole thing makes me so angry.

I am ashamed of my state and heartbroken for what this means for you and Liz. Although I know that it doesn't affect the love you feel for each other, it is atrocious to me that you are not allowed to express your love for and commitment to each other in the same manner as others are allowed in this state.
