I called the Loew's Portofino this AM and the guy on the phone was really nice and I scored one of the very last rooms at the convention rate.  BOOYAH.  Then I thought for a second and I remembered, "Oh, yeah.  Weren't the Loew's hotels in Orlando the ones who started treating the cats on the property badly like total assholes ( Read more... )

I hadn't known about any of this - I mean, we've been contracted to be there for over two years now - but there seem to be a wide range of feelings and thoughts on what has actually even happened in the last three months, at least on the few blogs I just read. I can certainly ask our event coordinator, but she's technically at Royal Pacific and just coming to Portofino for our con and may not know the day-in-day-out details or issues.

Yeah--feeling are running very high on all sides, and some fellow conference attenders cautioned me not to believe everything I read on the internet. I called and wrote a few of the hotel people say I was a real customer, not a crazy activist or a reporter, who just wanted their quick side of the story.

I still plan to go to this wonderful conference, though, which is the main bit.

The issue's at all three hotels: the Portofino, the Royal Pacific, and the Hard Rock. If you do get an answer, will you post about it? I did speak to a very nice young woman in Customer Service, and I will say that she made a real effort to answer my concerns. She certainly didn't have to make multiple calls to respond to just one customer. But I'm still not sure if I'm satisfied with the answers. I haven't heard about much after the protest outside the hotels on the 19th. Many or most of the cats have already been relocated--taken to a shelter, but then rescued by a Trap/Neuter/Release program ( ... )
