The Way of the Wolf

Phew.

I've been re-doing and tweaking my werewolf stuff, hoping to publish it.  I hadn't before, because really, where do you publish stuff on Harry Potter?  Back in 2005, 2006, and 2007, not as easy as it sounds!  Anyway, of course this requires lit. reviews and . . . .

Son of Merlin, there has been a quite good dissertation (2009) and at least one ( Read more... )

werewolves, prophecy 2007, conferences, harry potter, conventions

That sounds good!

But it was different right?

It's like that in IT. Many people have the same idea and are working on it and then there are two near results.

it is really frustrating and very difficult to come up with an idea we think is innovative only to find out somone did the idea and delivered earlier.

It's pretty much like that: the work was happening in parallel. It's just nice to be able to document that it *was* taking place in parallel. I suppose it's my own fault for shoving this to the back of the burner for so long, but then, I genuinely didn't know where to publish it.

On the other hand, it might not matter quite so much. In science or IT, you really do have to be the first person to publish, but in the humanities, it doesn't matter because no one really needs what we're writing about anyway. *rimshot* Yes, I really went there. Usually, I tell my students, "hey, maybe somebody else has said it before, but it wasn't you who said it. Whatever you say will be different, because it's you."

I'm used to Shakespeare, who stays stubbornly dead no matter what I do. Werewolves in pop culture are a moving target.

May 2012. I cannot believe it was so damned close. May 2012. Argh. Still, might as well write it up anyway.
