It just keeps getting worse.

So, I drive by the old apartment today and see that it looks like somebody has moved in. Later on Kasi comes home and tells me that the woman that was subletting our apartment is breaking the sublet because it reeks of car urine in there. I called the leasing office and found out that somebody had signed the sublease but was breaking it ( Read more... )

sadly, I think you are screwed. You signed a contract to fulfill a yearlong lease. Usually leases have a clause about "If you wish to break it you must give us XX days notice, and pay us YY money." YY is likely to be less than the full cost of your year lease, but it might not be.

I do think we are screwed. The sad thing is that all along they had told us that we could pay a $65 fee and break the lease and then pay a $75 fee and they would find a subletter/replacement for us. They were even going to wave the $65 fee for us.

Now, they have moved somebody in, that person has seemed to be an oversensitive flake from the beginning, and now is going to break the sublease. I'm going to see if I can't get a copy of our current lease and the sublease that she signed. From what I was told yesterday, the woman didn't sign a lease with them, she supposedly signed a sublease with us, but we have never seen this sublease and have never signed it, so it just seems like they are screwing us over in that respect as well.
