Mordie sat up in the dark, sweat making her thin blonde hair stick to her forehead. She looked around the darkness, digging her nails into her palms.
"Sssh Mordie." She whispered to herself softly. "Sssh Mordie, the scary man isn't here. You just dreamed." The six year old hunted around for her teddy bear, but she couldn't find it.
She wanted her dad. She wanted to crawl into bed with her dad and feel his bony ribs stick into her back as he cuddled into her and sang lullabies to make her eyes close and her body relax.
"Dad." Mordie whimpered softly.
But someone else was in Alex's bed now, and Mordie was grown up. She bet Dinah didn't crawl into her dads' bed. Mordie wouldn't. Mordie just needed to find her teddy bear again.

"Give me a minute." The younger girl unfurled slowly, yawning like a kitten. Her dark hair, tied back into a loose plait, swung around her shoulders. "What's the rush, Mordie, it's a-"
"Lily and Ben are coming around." She grabbed the edge of the mattress and tugged it, sending Dinah rolling off onto the floor with a crash. "Hurry up, Jesus Christ Hetherton!"
"Ok, I'm up, I'm up." Dinah reached for her clothes slowly. "Can I see you later?"
"You do know I'm straight, right?" The blonde sneered. "Go, for Christ's sake!"

"Why is my son talking to me like this?" Tom queried, looking over at the lump on the bed that was his partner. The younger man didn't respond, the covers pulled over his head. "Thanks for the support, Andrew."
"Dad." Curtis said sweetly, putting a hand on his arm. "Can you invest in a lock for your door?"
